Lead Full Stack Developer in SOUTH AFRICA

Visa sponsorship & Relocation 4 hours ago

Fintura is currently looking to hire a Lead Full‑Stack Developer with a passion for building and shipping quickly, you will be the first in-house developer and be a self starter with big goals 🙌

Fintura in 60 seconds

We’re an AI‑first accounting platform helping firms ditch admin and get compliant without the chaos. Think practice management, compliance (CIPC/SARS/DOL), and soon…tax (with your help!). We’ve just closed our funding round, we’re growing fast across SA, and our eyes are set on Africa (and beyond). We ship quickly and often.

Recent wins (why now)

  • 100%+ month‑over‑month growth.
  • Winners — Startup World Cup (Johannesburg); pitching at the San Francisco finals.
  • Advisor bench that includes a CTO with 15+ years’ experience for hands-on guidance and mentorship.
  • Key partnerships already in place and ready to scale.

Why you’ll love this

You’ll be the first in‑house developer. That means real ownership, big decisions and zero layers between you and customer impact and a huge opportunity for professional growth. If you like start‑ups, love getting features over the line, and aren’t precious about wearing multiple hats… This is your perfect place.

TL;DR: We build fast. We learn constantly. We have fun. It’s hard work.

What you’ll do

  • Ship end‑to‑end: idea → UI → API → database → deploy → measure → iterate.
  • Lead architecture choices for core modules (Practice Management, Compliance and Taxation).
  • Build clean, fast UIs with React + Tailwind.
  • Design robust back‑end services in Node.js/TypeScript
  • Model data and keep it snappy on PostgreSQL (SQL).
  • Integrate with third parties (CIPC/SARS/DOL, Xero/Sage/QuickBooks, etc.).
  • Set the engineering bar: testing, CI/CD, observability, perf, docs.
  • Make good cloud calls on AWS (containers, IaC, secrets, monitoring, backups).
  • Keep users’ data safe (POPIA mindset baked‑in).
  • Turn feedback into features in days, not months.

What you’ve probably done

  • 5+ years building production web apps (start‑ups or product teams).
  • TypeScript everywhere that matters.
  • Real‑world experience with Node.js/Next.js, React, Tailwind.
  • Solid back‑end fundamentals: auth, APIs, caching, performance, background jobs.
  • Comfortable on AWS and modern DevOps (Docker, CI/CD, logging/metrics, IaC basics).
  • PostgreSQL/ORM (Prisma or similar) without googling every second query.
  • Product sense: you optimise for impact, not ceremony.

Non‑negotiables

  • AI‑first builder. We use Cursor daily. You’ll get training and support, but you must be keen to build this way.
  • Startup mentality. You’re willing to do what it takes to get a sprint done, cut scope, unblock yourself, jump into another layer of the stack, ask for help early.
  • Quality at speed. Small PRs, tests where it counts, instrumentation, and tidy follow‑ups.

Nice‑to‑haves

  • Integration experience with finance/gov systems (CIPC/SARS/DOL) or accounting tools (Xero/Sage/QuickBooks).
  • Multi‑tenant SaaS security, RBAC, audit trails.
  • Event‑driven architectures: queues, workers, webhooks.
  • PDF/Excel generation and secure file storage.
  • POPIA familiarity.
  • Early‑stage start‑up experience.

Our stack

  • Frontend: React, Tailwind, Next.js, TypeScript
  • Backend: Node.js/TypeScript, REST/GraphQL (as needed)
  • Data: PostgreSQL (+ Prisma or equivalent)
  • Infra: AWS, Docker, CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar), IaC (Terraform/Pulumi)
  • Observability: Sentry/Datadog/Otel (we’ll pick together)
  • AI tooling: Cursor for dev; OpenAI integrations in‑product (a strong passion for AI with example projects and use cases)

First 90 days

30 days – Full understanding and planning of architecture ready to start shipping and building (fast).

60 days – Lead multiple features end‑to‑end; add baseline observability; close obvious security gaps.

90 days – Own the full build and push for launch of new platform build (we’ll explain on a call).

Compensation & perks

  • Salary: Negotiable (based on experience)
  • Equity: Possible (also based on experience)
  • Tools & learning: We’ll kit you out and fund the learning you need (yes, Cursor included).
  • Time off: Competitive leave and flexible time when life happens.
  • Culture: Low‑ego, high‑ownership, shipping > showboating, and we actually like each other.
