Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of technicians and specialists in managing and maintaining broadband networks, fiber systems, and legacy telephony infrastructure.
- Serve as a hands-on leader, providing technical guidance and stepping in directly during outages or escalations.
- Oversee the daily operations of network provisioning, system troubleshooting, infrastructure upgrades, and central office maintenance.
- Develop and implement long-term strategies for broadband expansion, network optimization, and service improvement.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and equipment inventory for ongoing maintenance and system enhancements.
- Coordinate with engineering, IT, and outside contractors to plan and execute technical projects.
- Ensure 24/7 network reliability through effective on-call coverage, preventative maintenance schedules, and rapid incident response.
- Mentor and develop staff, ensuring appropriate cross-training and succession planning.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and data integrity protocols.
- Report regularly to executive leadership on operational KPIs, project progress, and budgetary needs.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of technical leadership in telecom or broadband network operations, with experience managing small field teams.
- Demonstrated knowledge of central office infrastructure, routers, switches, DC/AC systems, and fiber network components.
- Strong familiarity with carrier-grade networking equipment and protocols (e.g., SONET, SIP, TDM, Calix, Cisco).
- Proven ability to balance hands-on problem solving with strategic planning and project execution.
- Solid experience in cross-functional team coordination, contractor management, and vendor negotiation.
- Comfortable working in a 100% on-site leadership role in a rural environment.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally for site visits.
