The Role

The VP of Engineering will own the day-to-day leadership and execution of the engineering organization, ensuring our teams deliver reliable, scalable, and secure technology. They will provide both operational leadership and hands-on technical support, helping troubleshoot incidents, guide architecture decisions, and mentor engineers. Reporting to the CTO, the VP will free up the CTO to focus on long-term strategy and innovation by running engineering execution at a high standard and continuing our maturity path.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Management

• Lead and manage the engineering organisation across multiple teams
• Take responsibility for day-to-day operations, delivery schedules, and performance of the engineering org.
• Hire, coach, and retain top engineering talent while creating clear career development paths.
• Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with Product to align engineering output with roadmap priorities.

Technical Leadership & Tactical Support

• Be technically credible - able to support engineers in troubleshooting incidents, debugging production issues, and resolving blockers.
• Contribute to architecture and design discussions to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Act as a trusted sounding board for senior engineers and team leads on complex technical problems.
• Balance hands-on involvement with empowering engineers to own solutions.

Execution & Delivery

• Ensure projects are delivered on time, on scope, and to quality standards.
• Oversee release management and deployments, ensuring stability and uptime.
• Drive adoption of best practices in coding, testing, CI/CD, observability, and monitoring.
• Own incident response coordination and post-mortem improvements.

Processes & Operational Excellence

• Establish and refine engineering processes, metrics, and KPIs to measure productivity, quality, and velocity.
• Manage resource allocation and capacity planning across projects and teams.
• Ensure compliance with security, SOC 2, and other regulatory requirements.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven track record leading engineering teams in a high-growth SaaS environment.
• Strong technical background (hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and modern software development).
• Ability to dive deep into technical challenges (debugging, incident management, architecture guidance) while also running teams at scale.
• Demonstrated success building engineering processes that balance speed and quality.
• Strong people leadership with experience building and scaling distributed teams.
• Excellent communicator who can bridge technical and business discussions.
• Familiarity with our tech stack, including:
• Strong experience with AWS services and architecture
• Containerised systems
• AI tooling such as AWS Bedrock and Sagemaker
• Modern web technologies including javascript and PHP applications and frameworks
