Project Overview
The Data and Content Management Division at the Government of Alberta (GoA) uses a "one-government" approach to information governance, privacy, and data services. This model improves data access, reduces duplication, fosters innovation, and ensures better, more efficient services for Albertans.
As part of the GoA Data Strategy, the Data Centre of Excellence is seeking a
Business Intelligence Analyst to design and develop analytical data products and services. This role is integral to high-quality data analysis, modeling, and visualization, enabling evidence-based decision-making across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on business intelligence support for strategic data initiatives under the GoA Data Strategy.
- Translate complex data into actionable business insights through dashboards, reports, and KPIs.
- Design and deliver data products using various datasets.
- Conduct data analysis, quality reviews, audits, and statistical analysis.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements.
- Document business and technical metadata.
- Create and maintain data models and visualizations.
- Support strategic decision-making with integrated quantitative and qualitative data.
- Escalate issues and risks when needed.
- Work in a multi-vendor/staff environment.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (equivalent experience considered)
- Experience:
- 5+ years translating business requirements into analytical solutions
- 5+ years developing, optimizing, and maintaining Power BI solutions
- 5+ years using advanced visualization techniques
- 5+ years developing DAX measures and calculated columns
- 5+ years analyzing large, complex datasets
- 5+ years of data storytelling and presenting insights
- 5+ years gathering and understanding analytical requirements
Nice-to-Have
- 2+ years building data products in the GoA Cloud Environment
- 5+ years integrating raw data from multiple sources
- 5+ years communicating complex data concepts to non-technical audiences
- 3+ years working with SQL for data transformation and querying
- 5+ years developing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models
- 3+ years experience with large government datasets
Technical Requirements
- Equipment: Must provide own computer compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). Windows preferred.
- All software necessary for AVD access will be installed by GoA.
- The fixed rate must include all overhead costs (equipment, software, space, etc.).
Location & Work Conditions
- 100% remote work from within Canada (mandatory due to data security regulations).
- No travel, relocation, or commuting expenses will be covered.
- On-site meetings, if required, are unpaid for travel and accommodation.
