Supply Chain Manager
"Strategic Global Procurement and Supply Chain Development for Precision Oilfield and Energy Technologies"
Location: Aberdeen (relocation support considered)
Salary: c£85,000 + benefits + car allowance + discretionary bonus
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Supply Chain Manager to take ownership of a complex, international supply chain within a specialist precision-engineering business serving the energy, oil and gas, and energy-transition sectors - including hydrogen, CCUS, and geothermal technologies.
This is a pivotal strategic role reporting directly to the CEO. You will design and implement a multi-tiered global supply-chain strategy, balancing internal machining capability with a world-class network of manufacturing partners across the UK, Europe, Middle East and APAC. The goal: reduced cost-to-serve, improved lead times, enhanced quality, and expanded manufacturing capacity to underpin our client's growth.
Following the appointment of a new CEO and a strengthened leadership team, our client is entering a period of modernisation, rebranding, and investment. The business is headquartered in Aberdeen, close to its engineering, product-development, and commercial functions, positioning this role at the centre of transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a make-vs-buy and dual-sourcing strategy, balancing in-house and external manufacturing for optimal cost, capacity, and risk mitigation.
- Build, qualify, and manage a global vendor base specialising in machining, coatings, additive manufacturing, and assembly.
- Identify, assess, and validate end-to-end manufacturing partnerships capable of direct shipping to customers in APAC and the Middle East.
- Review and strengthen UK supplier capability, ensuring performance, quality, and continuity for long-term oil and gas contracts.
- Lead margin-improvement and cost-optimisation initiatives, including value analysis/value engineering (VAVE) and batch-size optimisation.
- Introduce Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) and optimise buffer stocks to support low-volume, high-value product lines.
- Oversee inventory, forecasting, and ERP/MRP planning; drive data-driven supply decisions through collaboration with Finance and Sales.
- Partner with Engineering and the new Product Line Director to ensure manufacturability, support NPD, and align supply chain with innovation pipelines.
- Implement robust supplier KPIs, quarterly reviews, and vendor audits to improve delivery performance, quality, and reliability.
- Champion QHSE standards, ensuring vendor compliance and supporting the forthcoming appointment of the new QHSE Manager.
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership in supply-chain and procurement within precision engineering, oil and gas, energy-technology, or advanced-manufacturing sectors.
- International sourcing experience across UK, Europe, Middle East, and APAC; confident negotiating near-customer manufacturing partnerships.
- Strong technical literacy - able to read engineering drawings and understand CNC, metallurgy, coatings, and additive processes.
- Demonstrated delivery of cost, quality, and lead-time improvements, supplier development, and risk-mitigation programmes.
- ERP/MRP and S&OP expertise, with a data-driven, continuous-improvement mindset.
- Influential communicator with the credibility to engage cross-functionally at Board and leadership level.
- Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business preferred; CIPS qualification advantageous.
Package
- Base salary: £85,000 - £90,000 (DOE) + discretionary bonus
- Benefits: 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays, pension (5%/5%), life assurance 3× salary
- Car allowance and relocation support considered
Why Apply
- Strategic leadership role with CEO and Board visibility.
- Opportunity to shape a global supply chain supporting expansion across energy and oil and gas markets.
- Combine hands-on supplier development with long-term strategic influence.
- Key contributor to a privately owned, PE-backed engineering company entering a period of transformation, growth, and rebranding.
- Excellent prospects for progression within a high-growth, innovation-driven environment.
