Who You’ll Work With
The Information Technology organization is the technological foundation of our business and works in collaboration with our partners from across the company. The team drives technology and digital transformation, partners with business leaders to design and execute new strategies through IT and operations services and ensures the necessary IT risk management and security measures are in place and aligned with enterprise architecture standards and principles.
About The Role
This position is responsible for the design and administration of enterprise database systems and to maintain databases perform optimally according to the service level objectives for Corebridge critical applications, verifying the performance, capacity and availability of all database resources. This role designs and documents process for database configuration, migration, upgrade, monitoring, query tuning, security compliance, troubleshooting, backup and recovery. The candidate must keep the current and future business objectives in mind; they are expected to bring design and maintain state-of-the-art database environments, especially in the following Database technologies: Oracle Exadata, IBM DB2 on Mainframe and Snowflake database.
Responsibilities
- Thought Leader and change agent that works on understanding the big picture business strategy and builds database systems and platforms that support the strategic business goals and roadmap.
- Design database infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, security, and scalability.
- Ensure database infrastructure is properly patched, monitored, and maintained thru automation. Work closely with the Enterprise Shared Services team and Enterprise architecture team to help shape a clear technology lifecycle strategy for all database platforms.
- Build/maintain strong IT control and secure database environment. Works closely with IT Risk and Compliance to ensure security and compliance standards are followed.
- Responsible for the stability and reliability of mission-critical databases running on Oracle, SQL Server, IBM DB2, AWS RDS, and/or other database management systems used in the enterprise.
- Validate and optimize database asset counts, ensure compliance with the software asset management team for effective licensing positions.
- Develop, configure and install database management systems. Build pipelines for automated deployment of database instances.
- Apply security best practices to database environments. Evaluate, schedule, configure, and install database upgrades and patches.
- Determine backup strategies for database management systems. Design database backup processes based on business need. Assist DBA Operations diagnose and resolves backup failures. Perform test restores of database backups to ensure backups are recoverable in the event of database failure and/or disaster.
- Review and advice on System design for High Availability and DR/BCP capability.
- Proactively tune database system performance to ensure defined business requirements and service level agreements are met.
- Provide database technology stack guidance to application teams in choosing the right database technology fitting the application. Review database design specifications to ensure adherence to database standards and best practices.
Skills And Qualifications
- 8+ Years of in-depth experience in Database Technologies like Oracle Exadata, IBM DB2 on and Snowflake database.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, systems analysis or a related study.
- Strong skills in troubleshooting, performance tuning, security, backup/recovery and monitoring of large database management systems.
- Must have hands on experience with Windows, Linux & UNIX Platforms.
- Ability to independently run technical meetings and directly interface with the business.
- Experience with Cloud based database technologies like Amazon RDS, SQL Database and Oracle Exadata Cloud preferred.
- Experience in UNIX shell scripting, Perl, Python and other scripting languages/utilities preferred.
Work Location
This position is based in Corebridge Financial’s Houston, TX office and is subject to our hybrid working policy, which gives colleagues the benefits of working both in an office and remotely.
