We are seeking a motivated and talented Backend Engineer to join our Security and Access team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in software engineering who is eager to learn, grow, and tackle complex challenges in platform engineering supporting the rapidly evolving field of AI. Curiosity, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to delivering high-quality software are qualities we highly value.
As a Backend Engineer, you will design and build scalable, robust backend systems in user and tenant management, authentication and authorization, secret management, access and controls, and other key systems that power DataRobot's Predictive and Generative AI initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer to work on impactful projects, enhance their skills, and collaborate with a team of experienced professionals in one of the most innovative and dynamic industries.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 1 to 2 years of proven experience writing high-quality software code in a collaborative environment using Python or Go
- Prior knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis
- Basic understanding of identity and access management (IAM) concepts
- Experience working with cloud platforms: designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based solutions
- Understanding of design for scalability, performance, and reliability
- Effective communication behavior: can connect with both technical and non-technical audiences effectively in English
- A continuous learning mindset with the ability to challenge yourself and apply new knowledge
- Personal drive and a proactive approach to getting things done
- Adapt to the fun, fast-paced environment of our engineering team
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and support new access-related functionality of our Platform
- Manage individual projects and milestones with abundant communication of progress
- Participate in code reviews
- Design infrastructure for new features with the input of peers
- Create and maintain automated tests
- Engage in engineering on-call escalated support of services owned by the team
Nice to have:
- Publicly reviewable contributions to exciting development projects
- Familiarity with common security protocols (e.g. Auth2, OpenID Connect, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of software architecture for large distributed systems
- Understanding of Kubernetes and Helm. Experience in building and running software systems on Kubernetes clusters in production.
- Some working knowledge of automated testing and test-driven development.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Keen interest in working in a fast-paced, flexible startup environment with a geographically distributed team
