We are seeking a visionary Data Architect to lead the design and governance of data architecture specializing in Snowflake architecture, cloud migrations, data engineering and analytics.
The incumbent would have proven expertise in designing scalable data architectures, implementing high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines and optimizing cloud data solutions for actionable business insights. Adept at leading cross-functional teams, ensuring data governance, and driving cost-efficient, secure, and compliant environments. Recognized for delivering innovative solutions that enhance operational excellence and business growth.

What You Will Do
As a Data Architect in Caterpillar’s Data Services team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure and high-performance data architectures that support enterprise-wide analytics, reporting, and digital transformation initiatives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to modernize data platforms, ensure data governance, and enable advanced analytics capabilities across Caterpillar’s global operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Architectural Leadership
- Design data architecture based on Caterpillar Enterprise Architecture standards
- Recommend standards for data modeling, integration, storage, and governance
- Lead the selection and implementation of data platforms, tools, and technologies based on Enterprise guidelines.
Data Engineering Enablement
- Collaborate with data engineers to build robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines.
- Ensure alignment between data architecture and ETL workflows, cloud infrastructure, and analytics platforms.
- Support real-time and batch data processing for production monitoring, predictive maintenance, and supply chain optimization.
Integration & Platform Strategy
- Architect data flows between shop floor systems, SAP, IoT platforms, and cloud data lakes/warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, AWS).
- Define APIs, data services, and integration patterns for seamless interoperability.
Governance & Compliance
- Establish data governance frameworks, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
- Ensure compliance with Enterprise standards and internal security policies.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and analytics leaders to translate business needs into data architecture solutions.
- Mentor data engineers and analysts on best practices and architectural principles.
Innovation & Optimization
- Explore and implement AI/ML capabilities, including GenAI, to accelerate product innovation.
- Optimize data performance and accessibility across hybrid environments.
What You Will Have
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Overall 15+ years of relevant experience in IT with at least 5+ years of experience in Data Architecture with significant exposure to manufacturing domain.
- Expertise in Data Modeling (conceptual, logical, physical), ETL design, and cloud-native architecture.
- Hands-on experience with data platforms like Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, AWS Redshift.
- Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud) and data cataloging tools.
- Cloud Platforms Services: AWS (S3, Glue, Lambda, EC2, Athena, API Gateway, Cognito), Azure (Data Factory), GCP (Pub/Sub)
- Data Warehousing ETL/ELT: Snowflake (Snowpipe, Snowpark, Copy Command, Virtual Warehouses, Clustering, Micropartitioning), Informatica, Talend, dbt, Fivetran, Qlik Replicate, Apache Airflow, Control-M, Tidal Automation
- Programming Scripting: Python (Pandas, PySpark, Snowpark), SQL / PL/SQL, Shell Script / Unix, C++, Java
- CI/CD Automation
- Analytics Visualization: Power BI, Tableau, SnowSight
- Exposure to Agile Project methodology would be a plus
- Other: Data Modeling / ERD Design, Data Validation Anomaly Detection, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Masking Policies, Secure Data Sharing
- Certifications Preferred:
- Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect, or GCP Professional Cloud Architect)
- SAP Certified Application Associate (e.g., SAP BW/4HANA or S/4HANA Integration)
- Data Management or Governance Certification (e.g., DAMA, CDMP)
- Optional: Six Sigma Green Belt, ISA Certified Automation Professional
- Work Timings: 1:00PM to 10:00PM IST (Approx.)
- This position requires candidate to work a 5-day -a -week schedule in the office
