Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) who will play a critical role in supporting database operations, development, and infrastructure initiatives. This individual will work closely with Clemson’s Oracle and IDMS DBA teams, as well as multiple cross-agency stakeholders, to ensure secure, efficient, and scalable data management solutions.
This role combines strategic planning and hands-on technical execution, requiring strong SQL development skills, performance tuning expertise, and familiarity with healthcare data environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to development teams on database design, modeling, and architecture.
- Perform hands-on SQL development and database administration following Microsoft best practices.
- Collaborate with Oracle and IDMS DBA teams to support test, staging, and production environments.
- Develop and implement data migration plans from legacy systems.
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply optimization strategies.
- Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotation as needed.
- Document and maintain database operational procedures.
- Support project planning, including effort estimation and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with vendors, providers, and agencies to ensure project deliverables meet compliance and performance standards.

- Proven enterprise-level SQL DBA experience in Linux/Windows environments.
- Experience implementing and managing Data Guard.
- Strong background supporting web-based application development teams.
- Deep understanding of database scalability, performance, and best practices.

- Experience implementing data and traffic encryption solutions.
- Vendor management or stakeholder coordination experience.
- Knowledge of Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS).
- Previous experience in Medicaid operations or the public sector.
