Mechanical Designer – Heavy Equipment / Bulk Material Handling
We are representing a global leader in heavy equipment design and engineering, recognized for delivering advanced solutions to the mining and bulk materials handling industries. As part of their expanding aftermarket business, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join their global engineering team.
This is a key role where you will contribute to the mechanical design and development of large-scale mining and materials handling systems, supporting both new projects and aftermarket solutions that keep critical operations running worldwide.
About the Role
As Mechanical Designer, you will:
- Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings for bulk material handling equipment (feeders, conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, crushers, car dumpers, and similar heavy machinery).
- Carry out mechanical design calculations to ensure equipment performance, reliability, and compliance with international standards.
- Work closely with engineers to develop robust, cost-effective, and maintainable mechanical solutions for new builds, retrofits, and refurbishments.
- Support field service teams during breakdowns, maintenance, and upgrades by delivering rapid, practical design support.
- Collaborate with international offices, suppliers, and fabricators to ensure mechanical design integrity and manufacturability.
- Contribute to R&D initiatives, introducing improvements in mechanical systems, materials, and operational efficiency.
Key Requirements
Education:
Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within mining, heavy industry, or bulk material handling equipment.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar 3D design tools).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with drive systems, rotating equipment, and hydraulic/pneumatic components is advantageous.
- Familiarity with stress, fatigue, and tolerance analysis for heavy machinery.
Industry Knowledge:
Exposure to large-scale equipment such as conveyors, stacker reclaimers, car dumpers, crushing plants, or shiploaders is highly desirable.
