Minecraft Scripting Developer in UNITED KINGDOM

Remote 5 hours ago

Hey! We're looking for a Minecraft Bedrock Developer to join our team and help us create amazing gameplay experiences.

57Digital has been building content for some pretty cool brands - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mega Man, Street Fighter, and some exciting ones coming up in collaboration with Microsoft. Now we need someone who's passionate about Minecraft and loves pushing the boundaries of what's possible in Bedrock Edition.

What you'll be doing

You'll be working on everything from Bedrock Add-Ons and Worlds to server-side scripting (using @minecraft/server). Most of the time you'll be collaborating with our team, but sometimes you'll take the lead on solo projects working directly with our artists and QA folks.

Here's the day-to-day stuff:

  • Writing clean, efficient TypeScript code using Minecraft Scripting APIs
  • Embracing creativity through constraint - finding innovative solutions within Bedrocks capabilities
  • Turning our product ideas into technical specs, then actually building them
  • Creating engaging gameplay mechanics that make players go "wow"
  • Hopping between multiple projects - variety keeps things interesting
  • Fixing bugs without taking it personally when developers or our QA team finds them (they're really good at their job!)
  • Making sure everything meets Marketplace submission requirements, quality standards, and our internal coding standards
  • Using Git and Subversion to manage code and collaborate with the team
  • Egoless programming mindset - working closely with QA to squash bugs and make everything better.
Your first few months with us

Month 1: Getting to know everyone, learning how we work, setting up your dev environment with our tools and custom workflows. You'll start contributing to existing projects while learning our codebase and standards, and start working on small features and prototypes. You’ll work closely with our team and undergo regular code reviews.

By Month 3: You'll be working on live Marketplace projects, shipping real code that players will actually use. You'll have gotten into the rhythm of how we build things, be comfortable working with our art and QA teams, and be able to quickly iterate based on feedback. You'll own specific gameplay systems within larger collaborative projects and take responsibility for ensuring those systems continue to work as Minecraft evolves.

By Month 6: You'll be leading solo projects - we'll give you the product spec, you'll write the technical specification and implement it from start to Marketplace submission, or as features within our existing products. You'll be trusted to independently manage project timelines and be one of our go-to developers for the really ambitious stuff.

What we need from you

The essentials:

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Minecraft Scripting APIs
  • At least 2-3 years working on Minecraft Marketplace content
  • Solid understanding of behavior packs, resource packs, and Molang
  • Can work both independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable with Git and Subversion
  • Creative problem-solver who doesn't give up when things get tricky
  • Self-starter who can manage their own time and hit deadlines
  • That egoless approach - open to feedback and always learning
  • Understanding of good game design - you don't need to be a designer, but you should know what makes gameplay feel great and how to collaborate with our team to achieve it
  • Great written and verbal communication via Slack and Discord

Bonus points if you:

  • Know your way around Blockbench for models and animations
  • Have experience with Regolith for build pipelines
  • Are excited to learn our custom tools (and maybe even contribute to them!)
  • Have experience with working on online multiplayer experiences (doesn’t have to be specifically Minecraft)
What's in it for you
  • Work from anywhere - We're UK-based but totally remote. Work from anywhere, flexible hours to suit your timezone
  • Competitive pay - Up to $60,000 per year ($5,000 p/m) based on experience
  • Cool projects - High-profile work with major gaming brands that millions of players will enjoy
  • Variety - Mix of team collaborations and solo projects where you're the lead developer
  • Creative input - Your ideas matter and you'll help shape projects that reach huge audiences
How we work

We value autonomy and trust - we're not the type who'll breathe down your neck or check if you've got a green dot on Slack. We care about the quality of your work, not when you're sitting at your desk. We work via Slack and Discord, mostly in chat, but we also do regular voice/video calls too.

You'll be working directly with our leadership team (who are still developers themselves!). We've built everything with just two developers (that's us) alongside our fabulously talented team of artists, builders, and QA wizards. So you won't be dealing with layers of management - just direct collaboration with people who understand the technical challenges because they're solving them too.

We're a bit obsessed with streamlining our operations - if we have to do something manually more than twice, we'll probably automate it. We believe in building tools that help our future selves, and you might find yourself contributing to these internal tools as well as our main projects.

Let's be honest - we're a focused, results-driven team that cares about doing great work. We're friendly and supportive, but we're here to build amazing things, not to have team karaoke nights (but we do the occasional Apex/Fornite/C&C sesh!). Our work dynamic is built on respect and our shared passion for Minecraft. We celebrate our wins in Discord, help each other out when things get tough, and genuinely enjoy what we do.

If you want meaningful work and professional growth rather than office perks, you'll love it here.

The practical stuff
  • You need to be 18+ (non-negotiable)
  • Full-time on an exclusive basis (we'll consider part-time for exceptional applicants)
  • Employment options available if within the UK (otherwise on a freelance basis for international applicants)
  • Paid time off entitlement
  • 3 month probationary period with view to extend to 12 months, and on an ongoing annual basis based on performance
  • Comfortable signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement and undergoing an identity check - some of our work is top secret!
  • Start date is immediate (and ideally within 1 month)

We're an inclusive employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds. Different perspectives make better games - if you don't tick every box but you're excited about what we do, we still want to hear from you!
