About The Role

Unify Talent UK is currently seeking a highly experienced Senior / Lead Software Developer to join a prestigious government project on a fully remote, long-term contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a high-profile, high-impact government program, contributing to the development and maintenance of critical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying full-stack applications using a modern tech stack, including Kotlin, TypeScript, and associated frameworks. This position requires SC Clearance, emphasizing the importance of security and confidentiality in the work environment. The contract is initially set for three months with the possibility of extension, reflecting the ongoing nature of the project and long-term scope.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Software Developer, with a strong background in full-stack development.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, particularly with Spring Boot, for API development and backend services.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript frameworks for frontend development, including Express.js and integration with Gov department design systems.
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and integrating internal and external services.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications within AWS cloud environments, with knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to best practices in software engineering, including test-driven development, automated testing, and code reviews.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must hold a valid SC (Security Clearance) to comply with project security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and efficient full-stack applications using Kotlin and TypeScript.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Develop and document RESTful APIs and integrate with external and internal systems, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS, leveraging Terraform for infrastructure as code and managing deployment pipelines.
  • Utilize containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and scaling applications.
  • Follow best practices in software engineering, including TDD, automated testing, and peer code reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and share knowledge within the team.
  • Ensure all development work aligns with government standards and security protocols.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for code, APIs, and infrastructure to facilitate ongoing support and future development.
