Role Description
This role is based in Amsterdam. The scope of the Accommodation team touches all the products that relate to Accommodations, from the platform to the end-user and everything in between. This is the largest and fastest growing department at Booking.com. You will have a chance to help one of the largest travel websites in the world!
In the Search, Match & Book area, our mission is to make it easier for travelers to find and book their perfect trip. One of the foundational tasks to deliver this is to build a
source of truth in the company for Traveler Behaviour Funnel Data. Some main projects involve connecting data from different products, collaborating with the Engineers who produce the data, gathering needs from Analytics end-users and applying use cases of this data to the business.
As an Analytics Engineer, you will be working with partners throughout the company to ensure we have high-quality data to power our business in all departments. Decisions for every part of our business -- from the front end experience to performance marketing to partner products -- are driven by petabytes of our data via MySQL, Hadoop, Cassandra, etc. Your challenge will be to make sure we can apply our petabyte-scale data even more effectively to support business decisions and improve our products. Key Job Responsibilities And Duties
As an Analytics Engineer, you will be in charge of the development, performance, quality, and scaling of our data and metrics generating pipelines. You will work closely with a team of Data Scientists and Analysts as well as product.
- Develop scalable, flexible, and high-performance datasets and metrics by building data pipelines that process large amounts of data and power business critical decision making.
- Partner with analysts, data scientists and product partners on the data needs for metrics, dashboards, and analytic capabilities that will have the greatest impact on business decisions.
- Promote and drive impactful and innovative engineering solutions through your own work as well as acting as an intermediary for problems and connecting the work of software engineers to analytics stakeholders.
- End-to-end ownership of data and metrics quality in your team’s datasets and pipelines.
- Abstract patterns across dashboards and analyses in order to simplify and reuse code and data across the workflows involved. Optimize the analytics workflows to achieve scale and reliability.
- Help drive the modernization of Booking’s analytics systems, partnering with the data platform teams to leverage and influence the latest technologies. Be a force for keeping data and systems current with the latest technologies.
Role Qualifications And Requirements
- You have 3+ years of professional experience in the broad field of Data Engineering and hold a Master’s degree in a quantitative field.
- You have experience working directly in Analytics or Data Science, or have collaborated on E2E projects with colleagues specializing in these topics before
- You have a working knowledge of the statistics behind A/B testing and are comfortable with basic modeling techniques such as linear regression.
- You have experience designing systems E2E, going from problem statements via ideation to data and metrics in production.
- Proven knowledge of Python and Spark is required
- You have knowledge of Hadoop, Hive, Oozie, Kafka, Airflow.
- Experience with Data Warehousing and ETL/ELT pipelines at scale
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and product stakeholders - verbal and written
