Tyndall is recognised as an international research leader in semiconductor, chip and digital technologies, particularly as applied to the fields of Information & Communications, Health & Life Sciences, Agritech & Food Security, Energy and Climate Mitigation, emerging fields such as quantum, and novel computing paradigms.

The Institute’s key objective is to see frontier research activities having a significant impact on economic development and societal challenges in Ireland, Europe and beyond. Central to Tyndall’s mission is delivering economic impact through research excellence in partnership with industry and academia. With an annual turnover of more than €50m, the Institute has a community of over 600 researchers, engineers, support staff, postgraduate students, interns and industry researchers-in-residence.

With significant committed Irish government support, Tyndall will grow to be 1,000 people by 2030, with approximately 750 researchers, including 250 PhD students. A new 17,000 m² research building is under development adjacent to the Cork headquarters and there are developing plans to expand Tyndall’s existing Dublin research labs and to establish other research sites within Ireland.

Tyndall’s expansion is also supported by recent national and EU funding wins for significant (M€10’s) additional research equipment across a range of areas such as semiconductor processing, microscopy, quantum technologies, heterogeneous integration, ultra-high speed optical communications and RF through THz characterisation.

About the Role

The People and Culture Administrator will contribute to the Tyndall National Institute success by fostering a positive work culture and promoting employee engagement and satisfaction.

Reporting to the Senior People & Culture Business Partner, the successful candidate will provide a comprehensive and professional administrative support and advice service in the attraction, selection and development of talent and ensuring policy compliance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Managing all employment contracts and co-ordinating related relocation, immigration and onboarding requirements.
• Assisting with the continuous improvement of the Recruitment process to ensure the recruitment of talented staff and postgraduate students.
• Contributing to the payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of information to payroll deadlines.
• Participating in the delivery of the People & Culture Strategic Plan and projects/initiatives as required.
• Assisting with People & Culture communications processes and representing People & Culture, as appropriate.
• Providing support with the set up and delivery of training and development programmes.
• Assisting in the development and rollout of UCC and Tyndall policies and procedures.
• Ensuring all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system.
• Ensuring all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standards.
• Carrying out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Essential Criteria

• Typically, have 4 years previous HR experience in a busy HR administration role.
• A 3rd level qualification in business or HR.
• Up to date knowledge of People and Culture best practices and employment legislation.
• Experience in the use of and improvement of People and Culture database systems.
• Have a demonstrated track record of assisting in the implementation of best practice People and Culture solutions and a dedication to continuous development to underpin business strategy.
• The ability to interact with discretion and professionalism with all staff, students and management regarding issues and complex information.
• Excellent administration, teamwork, organisational, negotiation, communication and computer skills.

Desirable Criteria

• CIPD membership (Associate or Student) or actively working towards a relevant HR qualification.

Terms of Employment

Contract: Full-Time/Fixed Term (approximate 2-year contract)

Appointment may be made on the Senior Executive Assistant (SEA), Scale B (new entrants) salary €39,827 - €55,116 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with the public sector pay policy.
