The Role
The Town of Port Hedland is seeking a technically skilled and solutions-driven Cyber Security Specialist to join our team, reporting directly to the Principal IT Operations.
In this role, you will be responsible for safeguarding the Town's digital environment by protecting identities, endpoints, and data from cyber threats. You will leverage the Microsoft 365 security ecosystem and advanced security tools to prevent data exfiltration, detect vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best practices. You will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining security technologies, policies, and procedures to strengthen the Town's cyber resilience.
Central to this role is the ongoing management of vulnerability and incident response, the implementation of security policies and governance frameworks, and the design and maintenance of a Zero Trust security model across all digital systems and services. You will act as the principal subject matter expert on cyber security threats, risk assessment, and mitigation, and provide high-level consultancy on security architecture and cloud security.
We're Looking For Someone With
- Significant experience in a similar cyber security role (7+ years), with hands-on expertise in Microsoft 365 security tools (Defender, Sentinel, Intune) and identity management solutions.
- Significant expertise in Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, SharePoint, and Power Platform.
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, Essential Eight, Zero Trust Architecture).
- Proven experience in implementing or managing Zero Trust security models/environments.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications or a degree in Cyber Security, or equivalent knowledge gained through education, training, or experience.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and propose effective solutions.

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for the role, as well as possess:
- Significant experience in a comparable cyber security or IT role (7+ years)
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 security tools (Defender, Sentinel, Intune) and identity management solutions
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, Essential Eight, Zero Trust Architecture)
- Proven experience in implementing or managing Zero Trust security models/environments
- National Police Clearance
- Current 'C' class driver's license
- Rights to work in Australia
