Business Development Manager in UNITED KINGDOM

Remote 2 days ago

DATAPAO is a Databricks-backed data engineering & AI consulting company recognized by our customers for world-class delivery, training, and enablement. We have been named Databricks 2024 EMEA Emerging Business Partner of the Year and have achieved consecutive appearances on the Financial Times FT1000 list in 2024 and 2025.

TL;DR

We’re hiring our first UK-based sales role - Business Development Manager - to drive new business acquisition.

The role is heavily focused on hunting and co-selling net new professional services sales through our strategic partnership with Databricks. In this role, you’ll own the full sales cycle for our customers, generate a qualified pipeline through co-selling and attending events, and work closely with sales teams in Databricks and our internal delivery experts.

The opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in a consultative, partner-led environment and wants to help shape Datapao’s presence in the UK. The role carries a new logo acquisition remit, which will organically lead into a traditional account management role, nurturing the customers you acquire.

What will you do? 💻

Own the end-to-end sales cycle for customers - hunting and landing new logo acquisition accounts.

  • Drive qualified pipeline generation through our strategic partnership with Databricks, working closely with their sales teams to identify and activate service opportunities. We'd expect you to work onsite at Databricks offices 2-3 days a week.

  • Lead early-stage sales motions: run discovery calls, qualify needs, position Datapao’s capabilities, and ensure smooth transitions to delivery and technical teams.

  • Coordinate your virtual team — including Sales Engineers, Delivery Leads, and other stakeholders — to align on opportunity strategy and execution.

  • Organize and execute lead-generation activities, such as workshops, roundtables, and webinars, collaborating with Databricks and aligning with key accounts.

  • Act as a trusted point of contact for Databricks field teams and customer stakeholders, building long-term relationships across active and emerging accounts.

What will you bring? 🚀

Must-Have

  • A strong network across the Databricks Sales Ecosystem in the UK. You understand how to co-sell with Databricks and have a proven contact base to sell with.

  • Trusted Advisor mindset – You ask the right questions, understand customer pain points, and position service-based solutions tailored to real needs. You guide the customer toward their interest when their solution/approach is not optimal.

  • Proven track record of owning the sales cycle from inception to close - We’re a small sales team, so we'd expect you to be genuinely curious about understanding the whole sales cycle and comfortable leading it from one end to another.

  • Customer orientation – You drive value for the customer and help them discover and solve their (real) problems.

  • Partner relationship management – Proven ability to build trust and maintain visibility with partner AEs, SEs, and field teams.

  • Commercial acumen – Strong understanding of time & materials vs. fixed price models and how to navigate discounts and partner-influenced commercial expectations.

  • Versatility and sociability – You can easily transfer your know-how to new areas and feel comfortable getting in touch w/o an introduction with new stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with event-driven lead generation – Background in planning or supporting workshops, roundtables, or webinars as part of pipeline development.

  • Executive presence – Confident in presenting to senior stakeholders and able to steer conversations in high-pressure or high-stakes settings.

  • Storytelling and narrative building – Able to craft and deliver compelling stories that connect Datapao’s services to business outcomes. Ability to successfully move complex deals forward by aligning stakeholders across organizations, even when you aren’t the formal lead.

What will the selection process look like? ✅

  • Screening Interview (~45 minutes). Intro call with our Head of People. The purpose is to better understand your motivation for the role and assess how you match the role's core requirements.

  • Sales Interview (~60 minutes). Initial interview with our Head of Sales and an external consultant to explore your expertise with consultative sales, co-selling, pipeline development via Databricks, and broader knowledge of the UK data services market.

  • Take-home Assignment. We’ll ask you to prepare a 30-60-90 day self-onboarding plan outlining how you would approach the role, including your priorities, activities, and how you’d execute them. This allows you to demonstrate your thinking and show how you would drive success in the position.

  • Panel Presentation (~60 minutes). During this round, you will discuss your take-home assignment submission with our Head of Sales, an external consultant, and one or two other team members you'll work closely with (e.g., Pre-sales, Marketing). We think it's important for you to click from the get-go to achieve great things together.

  • Cultural Fit & Process debrief session (~45 minutes). The focus will be on discussing more in-depth ways of working with our Head of Sales, debriefing your performance during the interview process, and pre-aligning on possible goals and focus post joining. Only the candidates we strongly consider offering will reach this stage.

How will we measure success in this role? 🎯

Making an impact in this role will be a function of:

  • Lead Generation
  • Pipeline generation
  • Delivered Revenue – you will be given a Revenue Target to achieve.
  • Partnership development

Total compensation 💸

The total compensation for this role can go up to 160K GBP (gross, annual), and will be structured along two components as follows:

  • Base salary (fixed) - roughly 2/3
  • Sales incentive (variable) – highly attractive, simple, fixed % revenue commission structure

What do we offer? 🍯

You'll have the rare opportunity to join DATAPAO at a time when you can still meaningfully impact our growth trajectory and organizational success. Also, as one of our first UK hires, you’ll help shape DATAPAO’s presence in the UK.

Here is a list of some other extras we offer:

  • The chance to work remotely - we offer a fully remote setup. However, given our strong community emphasis, we'd expect you to spend some time in our Budapest hub during onboarding and on a quarterly basis ideally.

  • Flexible PTO days - we’re flexible with how many days you take off if that does not conflict with customer success and work getting done.

  • 4 weeks of paternity leave (if applicable) - because we think it’s important for both parents to be there when it matters the most.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - we'd like to be there for you when it counts the most. Through EAP, we offer access to psychology, financial, and legal consulting services via phone or in person.

  • Pension scheme enrollment and a comprehensive private health insurance plan - offered via our EOR (Employer of Record) provider, Remote.com. Remote.com will be your official employer in the UK for the foreseeable future until we'll establish our own legal entity.

  • Top-notch working equipment - working comfortably means working well. You will get a MacBook Pro, a phone, and a sign-up bonus of 500 GBP gross (to be paid with your first payroll) to set up your home office or whatever else is needed to give your best.

  • The chance to make an impact in a high-transparency culture - open feedback and no politics are things we value a lot at DATAPAO. Additionally, you'll get the chance to work in the field of data & AI and shape the future of a rapidly growing tech company.

Given that we are still sorting our ways out in the UK, this list will likely get an update in the following months, and we're also committed to growing it with us over time.
