Senior Controls System Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure

Location: Dallas–Fort Worth, TX (DFW) or South Carolina

Relocation: Available

Compensation: $150,000 – $250,000 base salary (commensurate with experience)

The Position

We are seeking a seasoned and visionary Controls System Engineer to lead the development of intelligent infrastructure systems that ensure the safe, efficient, and autonomous operation of our AI factory. This role is central to driving real-time observability, predictive maintenance, and operational optimization across mechanical and electrical systems, while embedding a controls-first culture in the organization.

As the in-house technical authority, you will own the strategy and execution of advanced BMS/EPMS/SCADA platforms, telemetry integration, and deployment of cutting-edge edge control and automation technologies. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will lead a cross-functional team while influencing technical direction across the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Innovation
  • Define and implement control system architectures spanning hardware (PLCs, sensors), software (SCADA, analytics), and network integration.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies including AI-driven controls, ML-based anomaly detection, and advanced sensors to enhance automation and predictive capabilities.
  • Architect modular, scalable solutions that support rapid HPC/AI infrastructure expansion while minimizing complexity and downtime.
  • Engineering Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a team of controls, instrumentation, and automation engineers.
  • Establish standardized protocols for design, commissioning, and documentation to ensure safety, consistency, and scalability across multiple sites.
  • Drive seamless integration of control systems with mechanical, electrical, and IT domains to deliver unified facility performance.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Design and commission BMS/EPMS/SCADA systems optimized for high-density compute and hybrid cooling environments.
  • Develop digital twins and simulation environments for forecasting, testing, and risk management.
  • Implement robust telemetry and alerting frameworks to provide actionable insights and enable proactive response.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to architect secure network designs, intrusion detection systems, and incident response frameworks for control environments.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering.
  • 10–15+ years in mission-critical systems automation, with direct BMS/SCADA experience.
  • Deep understanding of IT/OT convergence, network security, and telemetry frameworks.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale or GPU-accelerated environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to design and expand controls systems to meet rapid data center growth demands.

Bonus:

  • Strong programming and scripting experience (e.g., Python, IEC 61131-3, Niagara, PLC ladder logic).
