Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Browser Developer to join our core engineering team. You’ll be responsible for tailoring Island Enterprise Browser for educational use cases: secure browsing for students and teachers, centralised policy management for institutions, and seamless integration with our educational platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain browser features (rendering, networking, storage) optimised for educational settings.
- Implement and manage policy engines to support school- or institution-wide configurations.
- Integrate secure authentication (SSO, identity management) with learning platforms (Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, custom LMSs).
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, FERPA, COPPA, and other education-related standards.
- Optimise browser performance for low-resource environments (school labs, tablets, Chromebooks).
- Collaborate with product and support teams to ensure seamless integration with our educational websites and services.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- Strong proficiency in relevant programming languages, with solid knowledge of browser internals (rendering, JS engines, networking).
- Experience with Chromium, Blink, or other browser engines.
- Familiarity with enterprise IT environments, especially education (Active Directory, SSO, group policies).
- Understanding of modern web standards, accessibility (WCAG), and PWA technology.
- Proven ability to work on large-scale deployment and testing.
- A minimum of 6 months of experience working on a single Island Project
- Experience of the admin portal, so you are able to set up integrations with new websites and know how to lock things down, configure the DLP, and use Entra AD Groups to set user restrictions per website that Island is protecting.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience building or maintaining educational software or platforms.
- Knowledge of student data privacy laws and compliance frameworks.
- Exposure to sandboxing, secure browsing modes, and classroom management tools.
- Contributions to open-source browser or ed-tech projects.
