Vice President of Engineering
Remote (Global) | Full-time | Series C Developer Infrastructure Startup
Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder
Must have VP or Director Eng experience within Series A-C startups and have worked within the dev tooling, dev infrastructure or developer platform space.
We’re helping a fast-growing and culture-focused, series-backed startup scale its engineering leadership by way of hiring a VP of Engineering. This globally distributed company offers a developer platform that makes it easy to deploy full-stack applications close to your users — in data centers around the world — without the burden of managing traditional infrastructure.
Think of it as a global app hosting service that automatically runs your application on servers nearest to your users, delivering faster performance and a better experience.
They’re now looking for a VP of Engineering to bring structure, leadership, and vision to a high-performing team of ~40 engineers.
🧭 About the Role
This is a defining leadership opportunity: you'll shape the future of engineering at a company doing truly novel work in developer infrastructure and distributed systems. You'll report to the CEO/Founder and collaborate closely with product and platform leaders to ensure delivery, scale, and team cohesion.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional people-first engineering leader with deep empathy, high standards, and the technical grounding to engage in architectural tradeoffs—without needing to be the most hands-on coder in the room.
🔧 What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a global engineering org of ~40 people, across multiple functions and disciplines.
- Bring calm and clarity to a high-velocity, somewhat unstructured engineering environment.
- Collaborate with product, ops, and platform teams to align engineering priorities with company goals.
- Define and evolve how engineering is done—from hiring standards to processes to rituals.
- Strike a balance between velocity and quality; innovation and operational excellence.
- Support a high-performing team building with Go, Elixir, and Rust
- Communicate clearly and frequently—especially in writing via Slack, Discord, and docs
- Balance new feature development with technical debt, testing, and infrastructure improvements
- Hire and develop A-level engineering talent across frontend, backend, and infrastructure roles
- Ensure we build for both immediate impact and long-term extensibility
🧠 What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of engineering leadership at the VP or Director level in well-funded startups (Series A–D).
- Strong familiarity with developer tools, dev platforms, dev infrastructure, or edge compute environments.
- Experience managing 20+ engineers across distributed teams.
- A background in systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering—enough to ask the right questions and weigh tradeoffs.
- Excellent written communication skills and extreme attention to detail—most internal communication happens async and in writing.
- Experience scaling teams, bringing order to ambiguity, and building cultures that blend speed with stability.
- Looking for someone who can lead with empathy, bring structure, and win hearts and minds.
