As a mid-level Systems Designer on the Overwatch 2 team, you’ll collaborate closely with Senior Systems Designers to balance and enhance core gameplay, competitive play, rewards, and metasystems. Your role involves developing new features, refining existing systems, and working across disciplines to deliver engaging player experiences that align with our business goals.
We’re looking for a passionate designer with strong technical and creative skills, deep familiarity with Overwatch and live, free-to-play games, and a talent for turning complex systems into rewarding gameplay. You’ll be a partner with designers, engineers, artists, and production in a collaborative studio where teamwork drives success.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.
What You Bring To The Table
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Work with senior designers to balance and evolve competitive systems, core gameplay, and reward structures.
- Design and implement metasystem features, seasonal content, and live events in line with team objectives.
- Handle scripting for gameplay and system features, ensuring robust and well-tested solutions.
- Refine systems using data, analytics, and playtest feedback to enhance player engagement.
- Create detailed design documentation and collaborate with UI/UX teams for exceptional player experiences.
- Contribute to feature pitches, design reviews, and post-launch assessments to support quality and sustainability.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems or technical design, ideally focused on multiplayer games; a combination of relevant education and professional work experience will be considered.
- Experience designing, tuning, and improving metasystems and gameplay systems using testing and data.
- Proficiency with game toolsets and scripting languages (e.g., Lua, Python, Blueprint).
- Hands-on technical design and content implementation skills.
- Feature design experience in both gameplay and metasystems.
- Familiarity with competitive first-person shooters and their unique dynamics.
- Knowledge of Overwatch Heroes, gameplay systems, and live service content rhythms.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $29.81 - $55.14 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
