Backend Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA (on-site, 5 days per week)
Compensation: $200K – $300K base + extremely competitive equity

About the Role
We are seeking talented Backend Engineers to join a high-growth AI startup building next-generation creative tools. You’ll work on complex distributed systems, architect scalable infrastructure, and help shape a product that serves both individual creators and enterprise clients.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, deploy, and maintain private APIs for core web and mobile applications
- Architect and optimize database models and infrastructure performance, including caching and connection pooling
- Diagnose and resolve issues with system performance, including HTTP/3 and WebSockets handling for real-time image and video generation
- Improve observability, monitoring, and alerting for faster incident response
- Scale services through architectural improvements and infrastructure enhancements
- Contribute to open-source projects that emerge from internal product innovations
- Develop processes for building web-native and AI-native creative tools
- Add enterprise-grade features such as Audit Logs, SAML/SSO, and SCIM
What We’re Looking For
- 2–10 years of backend engineering experience with a strong focus on distributed systems
- Proven ability to design, build, and scale complex distributed systems
- Experience at a top startup, VC-backed company, or as a founding engineer
- Familiarity with applied AI/ML systems and enthusiasm for AI-native tools
- Hands-on, low-ego builders who iterate rapidly and thrive in highly creative teams
- Active GitHub contributions are a strong plus
