About Nest Veterinary
Nest is building the care plan platform for modern veterinary hospitals. Our technology helps practices design, deliver, and measure wellness programs that make preventative care easy to follow and sustainable to provide. For pet parents, that means predictable costs and better outcomes. For hospitals, it means stronger client relationships, steadier revenue, and more pets staying healthy under their care.
We’re a mission-driven team working at the intersection of design, technology, and medicine, and we’re just getting started. If you’ve ever wanted your work to both advance technology and improve the lives of millions of pets, Nest is the place to do it.
The Role
We’re seeking a Quality Assurance Lead to build out our testing process and tools. You’ll have the chance to shape Nest’s QA architecture, make critical technical decisions, and see your work directly improve the way veterinary care is delivered.
What You’ll Do
As our first QA Lead, you’ll establish and own the quality assurance function at our company. You’ll shape how we test, measure, and deliver product quality, while also being hands-on in testing our application suite. Specifically, you will:
- Build the QA function from the ground up – define processes, standards, and best practices that ensure high product quality.
- Evaluate and select testing tools (automation frameworks, test management, bug tracking, CI/CD integrations) that fit our stage and needs.
- Design and implement testing strategies – covering functional, regression, exploratory, performance, and security testing where appropriate.
- Perform hands-on manual testing to deeply understand our SaaS product suite and identify issues across user journeys.
- Develop an automation roadmap – determine where and when automation should be introduced, and drive its adoption.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, developers, and customer support to identify quality risks early and build scalable solutions.
- Own defect reporting and tracking – establish clear workflows for bug reporting, triage, and resolution.
- Establish metrics and reporting to track product quality, test coverage, and release readiness.
- Advocate for quality culture – coach and mentor developers and stakeholders on QA best practices and how to “shift left.”
- Continuously improve – iterate on tools, processes, and strategies as the company and product evolve.
What We’re Looking For
You might be a great fit if:
- You bring 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- You’re fluent in Python and familiar with frameworks like FastAPI or gRPC
- You have experience with SQL and relational databases
- You know Docker and container-based deployment
- You’re a strong communicator and comfortable working independently
You might be a great fit if:
- You have proven experience in QA or software testing, ideally in a SaaS or startup environment.
- You’ve led or played a key role in establishing QA processes where none existed before.
- You’re comfortable being hands-on with manual testing while also planning for long-term automation.
- You have strong knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, and frameworks, and can choose the right ones for the job.
- You’re detail-oriented, organized, and thrive on ensuring things work as intended.
- You communicate clearly and can work cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and support teams.
- You approach QA with a “customer-first mindset”, ensuring our users have a seamless experience.
Bonus points if:
- You have experience with test automation tools (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Postman).
- You’ve worked with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins) to integrate testing into deployments.
- You’ve tested multi-tenant SaaS applications or complex product ecosystems.
- You bring knowledge of performance, load, or security testing.
- You’ve helped build or mentor QA teams in a scaling environment.
