Job Overview

An exciting opportunity to work in the Specialist Epilepsy Team has arisen. This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice. With a background of nursing, the post holder will work closely with Consultant. Neurologists/Neuropsychiatrists and clinical nursing staff within the NMSK Division and other divisions within the trust towards improving service for patients with epilepsy.

Main duties of the job

  • To work in transitional care for adolescent patients transferring from paediatric to adult services.
  • To lead and run the antenatal epilepsy service at Southmead and UBHW.
  • To contribute to the education of patients with epilepsy, their carers, GPS and other outside key roles.
  • Participate in an emergency department liaison service offering review and facilitation of early discharge.
  • Ward liaison service offering review and facilitation of early discharge.
  • Offer independent nurse led follow up clinics for epilepsy patients for medication review/change
  • Attend first seizure clinic with the Consultant to offer specialist education and instruction.
  • Increase patient satisfaction and provide a competent and seamless service.
  • Liaison with medical & therapy staff as well as other hospital, departments and social services in order to ensure timely, appropriate and effective care is delivered.
  • Attend the epilepsy surgery MDTM.
  • Able to work in nurse led VNS clinic.
