ICT Support Officer (APS5), End User Computing in AUSTRALIA

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking to fill two ICT Support Officers (APS5), in the End User Computing (EUC) section which builds, delivers and maintains ICT infrastructure and platforms in support of ABS’ mission of collecting, collating and disseminating official statistics to support decision making across Australia’s public and private sectors.


About the role

ICT Support Officers in the Delivery & Support team are versatile and responsibilities include:

  • Provide onsite and remote technical support for all End User Computing (EUC) connected infrastructure (including laptops, printers, mobile / smart phones, tablets) and video conferencing equipment and capabilities. Some examples of products supported are Windows 10/11, Citrix and Microsoft Office Products and Microsoft teams.
  • The management and distribution of the physical ICT laptop and desktop fleet, including updating asset registers. (ServiceNow).
  • The configuration and support for networked MFD’s. (Papercut).
  • The provision and support for ICT assistive technologies and unified communication (UC) equipment (video conferencing / Teams).
  • Coordination and facilitation for office refits and relocation of the ICT end user hardware.
  • Monitor ticket queues for action and triage tickets, ensuring prompt and accurate handling. (ServiceNow).

Experience supporting end users utilising Citrix and Microsoft Virtual desktops (Cloud based or On premise) and administering using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager or Microsoft Intune would be advantageous.

The team works closely with other End User Computing Section teams, other ABS Business partners, application development teams and strategic vendors to deliver an optimum user experience within a complex compliant security framework.


What we are looking for (selection criteria)

To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

  • Proven ICT technical experience suitable to the role and duties as detailed in section 2 of the Applicant Information Kit (please detail your skills and experience)
  • Demonstrated lateral thinking and problem-solving skills
  • A predisposition to seeking continuous self-improvement, with a can-do and think outside the box attitude
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Be able to mentor a junior staff
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant ICT field or equivalent relevant work experience aligned with an onsite support role.
  • Demonstrated ability to use judgement when dealing with challenges involving competing priorities

Note: This role will require the occupant at times to lift, carry and install ICT hardware.
