Description
PingWind is seeking a Database Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is a fully remote position. Responsibilities span the entire software development lifecycle, focusing on automation, efficiency, and reliability
Responsibilities
- Design scalable, secure, and highly available cloud database solutions. Choose appropriate database types (relational, NoSQL, etc.) based on application needs. Develop data models and schema designs
- Provision and configure cloud database instances (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL, Oracle Autonomous etc.,). Migrate on-premises databases to the cloud, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime. Plan and execute database upgrades
- Monitor database performance using cloud-native and third-party tools. Identify and resolve bottlenecks (e.g., slow queries, resource constraints). Implement indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies
- Implement access controls, encryption, and auditing. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HL7, etc.). Regularly review and update security policies
- Set up automated backup and disaster recovery solutions. Test and document recovery procedures. Configure replication, failover, and clustering for high availability
- Automate database provisioning and configuration using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. Develop scripts for routine maintenance and monitoring
- Work with developers, DevOps, and IT teams to support application requirements. Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide technical support. Document database environments and procedures
- Monitor and optimize database resource usage to control cloud costs. Recommend right-sizing and cost-saving measures
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering or technical discipline
- 5 years relevant experience
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Expert communication and client management skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Flexible, able to adapt to different customer groups and expectations
- Experience working in and with cross-functional teams

- U.S. Citizenship; Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
