The Position
We are seeking a seasoned and visionary Controls System Engineer to lead the development of intelligent infrastructure systems that ensure safe, efficient, and autonomous operation of the AI factory. This includes managing BMS/EPMS platforms, integrating telemetry, and deploying edge control and automation strategies.
The ideal candidate will be regarded as the in-house technical controls expert, driving a controls-first culture, enabling real-time infrastructure observability, predictive maintenance, and operational optimization across mechanical and electrical systems. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this is an opportunity to work in a collaborative team where technical leadership of initiatives will be expected to achieve high quality outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Define and implement the control systems architecture, including hardware (PLCs, sensors), software (SCADA, analytics), and network integration.
- Own evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies such as AI-driven controls, machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection, and advanced sensor integration to enhance automation and predictive capabilities.
- Lead a team of controls, instrumentation, and automation engineers.
- Design and commission BMS/EPMS/SCADA systems that support high-density compute and hybrid cooling.
- Establish standardized design, commissioning, and documentation protocols for controls systems to ensure consistency, safety, and scalability across multiple sites.
- Architect modular and scalable control solutions to support rapid expansion of AI infrastructure while minimizing integration complexity and downtime.
- Facilitate seamless integration of controls systems with mechanical, electrical, and IT teams, ensuring a compliant and cohesive operation of building infrastructure and data center environments.
- Collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams to implement secure network architectures, intrusion detection systems, and incident response plans specific to control environments.
- Develop digital twin and simulation environments for operational forecasting and risk management.
- Implement comprehensive telemetry and alerting frameworks that provide operators with actionable insights and rapid response capabilities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical/Controls/Automation Engineering.
- 10–15+ years in mission-critical systems automation, with hands-on BMS/SCADA experience.
- Understanding of IT/OT convergence, network security, and telemetry frameworks.
- Experience with hyperscale or GPU-accelerated environments.
- Strong communicator with leadership experience
- Experience in rapid expansion of controls systems to support data center demand
- Bonus: Strong programming/scripting experience (e.g. Python, IEC 61131-3, Niagara, PLC ladder logic).
