About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Security Engineer to join our Cloud Security and Identity team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure systems and controls across OpenAI’s infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including engineering, security, and research—to embed security best practices into our products and services.
Your expertise will help safeguard our technology, data, and users while supporting our mission to develop safe and beneficial AI. This position offers flexibility for remote work or relocation assistance to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City. As a Security Engineer, you will be a proactive problem solver, capable of balancing technical depth with operational impact, and will contribute to building a resilient security culture across the organization.
Qualifications
- Deep understanding of security principles, best practices, and vulnerabilities
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or similar
- Proficiency in securing multi-cloud networks and designing cloud-agnostic systems
- Knowledge of container security, orchestration security, and authentication/authorization mechanisms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex security concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Proactive mindset with the ability to identify and mitigate security risks through automation and tooling
- Track record of delivering scalable security solutions in large-scale infrastructure environments
- Experience working collaboratively across teams to implement security enhancements
- Ability to adapt security controls to evolving technological challenges
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable security systems and controls to protect infrastructure globally
- Collaborate with engineering and security teams to deploy security enhancements and control measures
- Develop automation workflows to streamline security operations and routine tasks
- Identify security gaps and develop strategies to address vulnerabilities proactively
- Enhance infrastructure visibility through monitoring and logging solutions
- Build secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions that support OpenAI’s mission
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure security is integrated into all stages of development and deployment
- Stay informed on emerging security threats and industry best practices to continually improve security posture
- Contribute to a security-first culture by sharing knowledge and fostering best practices across teams
