Office Type: Onsite, 5 Days/Week
Salary: $250,000–$300,000 base + $1M–$2M total compensation potential
Company Overview
We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of a globally recognized hedge fund known for its performance, innovation, and elite engineering culture. The team in question operates as a high-performing product and infrastructure group within the broader organization, functioning more like a startup than a traditional finance team.
This unit is responsible for building scalable, production-grade experimentation and platform infrastructure that powers the firm’s trading, research, and investment functions. It is a rare opportunity to contribute to a team where software engineering drives competitive advantage—and where compensation reflects the impact engineers have on business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement experimentation systems and infrastructure that support product development, strategy testing, and high-frequency iteration across trading and investment teams.
- Collaborate directly with data scientists and researchers to understand their workflows and build tooling that enables rapid feedback and deployment.
- Develop highly reliable, scalable backend systems that serve as the foundation for real-time trading and decision-making platforms.
- Take full ownership of project architecture, design, and execution in a fast-moving environment.
- Participate in rigorous code reviews, system design sessions, and optimization efforts for critical infrastructure components.
Candidate Requirements
- 5 to 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally at elite technology companies.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with a focus on systems performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Demonstrated experience building backend infrastructure or experimentation platforms used to support product development or live services.
- Direct collaboration with data scientists or researchers as part of a product team; building tooling or systems for research—not conducting research.
- Strong systems design capabilities, especially in distributed computing or real-time systems.
- Experience in high-autonomy engineering environments with clear ownership and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on pricing systems, experimentation frameworks, growth infrastructure, or real-time product platforms.
- Familiarity with performance-sensitive or high-availability systems, including those with low-latency or real-time constraints.
- Education in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical discipline.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary between $250,000 and $300,000
- Significant sign-on bonuses (routinely six figures, occasionally seven for relocation or equity conversion)
- Total compensation ranging from $1 million to $2 million annually
- Option to allocate a portion of compensation to the firm’s hedge fund (one of the top-performing in the world)
- Full relocation support to New York City
- Comprehensive health, vision, dental, and retirement benefits
Additional Notes
- This is not a machine learning, data science, or quantitative research role.
- The team is focused exclusively on software engineers with product or platform experience who are building infrastructure—not models.
