Job Title: Bioprocess Engineer – Downstream Processing

Location: Visp, Valais, Switzerland (Relocation support available)

Overview

A leading life sciences company is seeking a Bioprocess Engineer with a strong background in Downstream Processing (DSP) to join their growing Biologics team in Visp, Switzerland. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about biotechnology and commercial biomanufacturing to contribute to high-impact operations within a global, GMP-compliant environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage operational activities in Downstream or Upstream Processing, including:
  • Tech transfer support
  • Material and resource planning
  • Batch documentation and record preparation
  • Staff training
  • Deviation and exception handling
  • Act as a functional lead, collaborating with operators, specialists, and supervisors to ensure smooth execution and operational excellence
  • Oversee and support daily commercial manufacturing processes, including:
  • Downstream Processing: capture steps, chromatography, TFF (tangential flow filtration), final filtration, and filling
  • Upstream Processing (if applicable): seed train development, bioreactor operations, harvest
  • Operate and optimize use of single-use or stainless-steel systems for protein production
  • Maintain high standards of GMP compliance and workplace safety
  • Foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team

Qualifications

  • Degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related life sciences field (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD)
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Upstream and/or Downstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Expertise in:
  • DSP techniques: chromatography, filtration (TFF, depth, sterile), buffer exchange, filling operations
  • USP techniques (a plus): mammalian cell culture, bioreactor operation
  • Strong working knowledge of GMP guidelines and manufacturing documentation
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); German proficiency is a plus
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative, solution-oriented approach
  • Open to learning, feedback, and innovation
