Your Contribution

As CTO at WeMoney, you’ll be at the helm of our technological evolution, shaping the strategic roadmap while staying hands-on in the code and deeply involved in product development. We’re looking for someone who thrives on tackling significant challenges head-on, guiding engineering teams, and translating ambitious ideas into tangible solutions that deliver life-changing impact for our members.

You’ll be the heart of our leadership and WeMoney’s mission—a big-picture thinker who never hesitates to jump into the details. You’ll guide our teams to push boundaries, creating safe-to-fail environments where learning and first principles thinking flourish. You’ll champion our mission at every turn, ensuring that the technology we build directly transforms the financial lives of our members. What You’ll Do

You will lead the overall technology vision at WeMoney—driving architectural excellence, ensuring scalability, and keeping us on the cutting edge of innovation. Beyond high-level strategy, you’re expected to roll up your sleeves and work directly with our engineering teams, product managers, and data experts to build world-class solutions that redefine personal finance for millions of Australians.

• Leadership Partner: Work directly with the Founder & CEO and executive team to execute strategic plans and achieve company-wide goals and objectives.
• Provide Visionary Leadership: Set a clear, inspiring technology roadmap in line with WeMoney’s mission and strategic objectives.
• Drive WeMoney’s AI-Driven Vision: Create and execute a forward-thinking technology roadmap that prioritises machine learning, data science, and cutting-edge AI innovation in line with WeMoney’s mission.
• Drive Architectural Excellence: Design and implement robust, scalable systems that support rapid growth and deliver unparalleled user experiences.
• Cultivate Engineering Culture: Build and mentor diverse, high-performing engineering teams that are deeply motivated by our purpose.
• Champion Hands-On Development: Get into the trenches—review pull requests, experiment with new technologies, and solve complex technical challenges alongside your team.
• Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to develop solutions that delight members and address core user needs.
• Ensure Data Security & Compliance: Oversee data privacy, compliance with CDR standards, and drive best practices in a regulated financial environment.
• Manage Technology Initiatives: Make strategic decisions around resource allocation and ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising on quality or security.
• Identify Emerging Opportunities: Stay ahead of frontier trends and evolving technologies, leading the adoption of new tools or methodologies that drive WeMoney’s competitive edge.

What we’re looking for

We see the future of money as inherently AI-driven—personalised recommendations, predictive insights, and frictionless automation that guide our members toward financial freedom. In this role, you’ll be responsible for weaving AI into the very fabric of WeMoney’s products and processes, ensuring we’re not just following industry trends but pioneering them. You’ll guide our teams to push into new frontiers, creating a culture where we merge technical excellence.

• Proven Leadership in High-Growth Environments: A strong track record of scaling fintech or similar high-growth technology businesses to millions of users—ideally 5 million+—while maintaining top-tier product quality and user experience.
• Deep Technical Expertise: 8+ years in technology leadership roles with hands-on experience in software engineering, system architecture, and cloud infrastructure (AWS). Experience with microservices, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices is a must.
• AI & Machine Learning Prior Success: Demonstrable success deploying AI/ML solutions at scale, with a solid understanding of data engineering, predictive analytics, and machine learning pipelines. You’ve led AI-centric projects from concept to production.
• Fintech & Regulatory Know-How: Familiarity with financial services regulations, data privacy laws, and compliance frameworks (e.g., CDR in Australia). Ability to design systems that uphold stringent security and data protection standards.
• Visionary, Yet Hands-On: Comfortable setting the strategic roadmap while diving into the code base, reviewing pull requests, and tackling complex technical challenges. You lead from the front and inspire teams through direct technical contributions.
• Team Building & Mentorship: Skilled in hiring, mentoring, and retaining top-tier engineering and data science talent. You’ve fostered a strong culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning in prior leadership roles.
• Collaboration & Communication: Proven success working cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Data teams, translating business goals into technical strategies. You thrive in transparent, mission-driven cultures.
• Strategic & Commercial Acumen: Comfortable balancing technical innovation with commercial realities—ensuring resources are optimally allocated, timelines are met, and high-impact features get delivered on schedule.
• Adaptability & Innovation: A willingness to explore emerging technologies, continually refine best practices, and pivot quickly in response to market changes or new insights. You embrace change as a catalyst for growth.
