Akkodis is seeking an onsite mid to senior level Python-based Data Engineer on our dedicated team in the Detroit Metropolitan area. This role requires a strong foundation in data engineering principles combined with deep expertise in Python for data manipulation and pipeline development. The ideal candidate will have proven experience connecting to diverse data sources, transforming raw data into actionable insights, and building robust data solutions. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and systems that pull information from various enterprise tools (SharePoint, Jama, Jira) and platforms, making it accessible for analysis and visualization using tools like Power BI or Tableau. Your work will directly support critical business decisions by ensuring data availability, quality, and performance.
Pay Range: $100,000 to $130,000/yr W2 only (salary commensurate based on experience and education levels). Relocation assistance and C2C is unavailable for this role.

Data Engineer job responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain the scalable and reliable ETL data pipelines to ingest, process, and integrate data from a wide variety of sources including APIs, databases, SharePoint, Jama, Jira, and other common automotive sector tools.
- Develop robust data connections for diverse systems, ensuring efficient and secure data extraction.
- Utilize your strong Python programming skills for data manipulation, transformation, cleansing, validation, and automation of data workflows.
- Write complex, efficient SQL queries for the data extraction, transformation, and analysis across different database systems and platforms like Google Big Query.
- Leverage the cloud-based data platforms, particularly Azure Databricks, for large-scale data processing, transformation, and analytics tasks.
- Develop and manage the data models within data warehousing solutions like Google Big Query to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Collaborate with the data analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions.
- Create and support the data visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Power BI (preferred) or Tableau to effectively communicate insights derived from the data.
- Develop, manage, and consume APIs as needed for data integration and retrieval purposes
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to ensure accuracy and reliability of data pipelines and datasets.
- Document the data sources, models, transformations, and pipeline architectures clearly and concisely.
- Stay current with the emerging trends and technologies in data engineering, Python development, cloud platforms, and data visualization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or Information Systems.
- Greater than five years of professional experience in a Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or similar data-focused role.
- Deep, demonstrable expertise in Python for data engineering tasks, including extensive experience with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Requests, etc.
- Strong proficiency in writing complex, optimized SQL queries and with relational and columnar databases.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based big data platforms, specifically Azure Databricks and Google Big Query.
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining the ETL data pipelines and workflows.
- Experience connecting to and extracting data from various sources, including APIs, databases, and enterprise tools (experience with SharePoint, Jama, Jira is highly desirable).
- Proficiency in using data visualization tools, with a strong preference for Power BI.
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, data warehousing principles, and database design.
- Familiarity with software development best practices, including version control (e.g., Git) and basic CI/CD concepts.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail regarding data quality.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with other cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, Azure Data Factory)
- Knowledge of specific data formats or standards used within the automotive industry
- Basic understanding of machine learning concepts or MLOps
