What You’ll Do
The individual is interested in being on the operational support front lines that assist with requests and problems of our Network and Server Systems infrastructure. As a Network and Systems Engineer, you can expect to develop valuable operational and procedural skills and gain real-world experience with the equipment running within the CarrierX IT Infrastructure.
The scope of responsibilities includes but is not limited to the following:
- Troubleshooting skills, including interaction with vendors, carriers, and senior-level engineering groups
- Be familiar with operations and monitoring techniques and be ready to help with improvements for available monitoring tools.
- Participating in updating and revising policies, procedures, and technical reports
- Maintaining and organizing systems and network hardware inventory
- Be responsible for all personal tasks and engagements assigned to the engineer within the internal ticketing system and be ready to lead and drive assigned projects.
- Collaborate proactively with other technical teams and engineering group members.
What We’re Looking For
You should have 5+ years of professional experience as a Network Engineer or in a similar engineering role.
- Strong proficiency in TCP/IP (or OSI) model. Capable of understanding common use cases involving traffic captures and issues related to protocols or applications.
- Practical knowledge of troubleshooting on various levels. Demonstrate different troubleshooting approaches and describe the benefits of each. Show a practical understanding of tools and applications used for troubleshooting.
- Minimum knowledge level: CCNP (Enterprise/Service Provider) or equivalent. A certification is a plus but not required; be prepared to demonstrate applicable knowledge.
- Strong understanding of dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, etc.)
- Solid understanding of modern Data center design principles
- Hands-on experience with Firewall Solutions (Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.) and Security practices applied to environments involving personal data.
- Practical knowledge of Servers and Network hardware and understanding of the interoperability methods
- Be prepared to work with cabling, network, and server hardware infrastructure as needed throughout the project. A strong understanding of connection types, device configurations, and related concepts is necessary to collaborate effectively with remote hands engineers.
- Be familiar with Linux and Windows operating systems as a power user. Experience and understanding the Linux Network Stack and its interoperability with Linux applications and services.
- Good practical understanding of virtualization techniques, including containers.
- Familiarity with Network device CLI and be ready to complete all required maintenance works according to the prepared MOP (Method of Procedure)
- Be ready to assist with tasks involving work with the Systems asset inventory.
- Hands-on experience with Network Automation is a plus (python, ansible, AWX) — willingness to work on Network Automation tasks to improve daily-basis operations.
