As they continue to expand their impact in international education, they are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to ensure the well-being and security of students, faculty, and staff participating in their programs abroad.
Position: Education Program Coordinator (Study Abroad) - Safety & Risk Management
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Education Program Coordinator to coordinate health, safety, and emergency management for faculty-led study abroad programs. This is a 3-month contract position (mid-April to mid-July), during the peak season of international programs.
Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Partnerships, the Education Program Coordinator will be responsible for assessing risks, responding to incidents, and coordinating emergency management for participants traveling abroad. This role requires 24/7 availability to respond to emergencies, including monitoring WhatsApp group chats, coordinating with on-ground teams, and liaising with U.S. institutions, emergency service providers, and travel insurance companies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Risk & Safety Assessment – Assess and monitor international health, safety, and risk management protocols for study abroad programs.
- Incident Response & Crisis Management – Serve as the first responder for routine incidents and emergency situations 24/7 via WhatsApp and the organization’s 24/7 answering service.
- Insurance Coordination – Act as the primary contact for travel insurance providers, supporting students, faculty, and institutions in triaging medical and emergency concerns.
- Policy & Risk Mitigation – Review travel plans, recommend steps to mitigate risks, and provide guidance to on-ground teams.
- Stakeholder Communication – Work closely with faculty, students, parents, government agencies, and emergency responders to ensure smooth coordination during emergencies.
- External Resource Monitoring – Stay updated on global travel advisories and best practices by liaising with organizations such as the U.S. Department of State, CDC, Overseas Advisory Council (OSAC), NAFSA, and the Forum on Education Abroad.
- Confidentiality & Compliance – Handle sensitive student information in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and education abroad health and safety standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Fluent in English (C1/C2 proficiency level) – Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and institutions.
- 3+ years of experience working with U.S. higher education institutions and/or study abroad programs.
- Experience managing group study abroad programs, international risk assessment, and emergency response.
- In-depth knowledge of global safety and security management strategies.
- Familiarity with best practices in education abroad health and safety, including NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad standards, FERPA, and HIPAA compliance.
- Previous experience studying or working abroad is preferred.

Job Type & Compensation:
- Contract Duration: 3 months (Mid-April to Mid-July)
- Work Hours: 30-40 hours per week (Full-time, remote position)
- Hourly Rate: $8 per hour USD
- Location: Fully Remote
