Fonzi is an AI-powered contingency recruiting service that performs all the essential functions of a traditional recruiting firm but automates many tasks typically handled by humans, making the process faster and more efficient.

Founded by longtime friends Brett Martin and Yang Mou, Fonzi soft-launched in November 2024. Much of the founding team has previously worked with Brett and Yang, a testament to their leadership and positive approach to company culture.


Although only a few months old, Fonzi is already generating revenue. The company is well-capitalized, with eight-figure funding from leading venture capital firms, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Boldstart Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and more. Building on this early success, Fonzi is rapidly scaling operations to establish itself as the market leader in disrupting the permanent placement recruiting industry.


The Role

We are seeking a full-time Public Relations Lead to oversee and scale our earned media efforts, including speaking appearances, podcasts, TV, and online/print journalism. Additionally, this role will manage small events related to speaking engagements (e.g., a happy hour at a conference). This position reports directly to the Head of Marketing and will be supported by an additional offshore BDR resource. Here are the areas of focus:


  • Earned Media - You’ll be responsible for managing our end-to-end earned media machine, which the Head of Marketing has previously scaled to secure earned conference appearances (20+/year), TV features (~5/year), podcast interviews (50+/year), and online/print media coverage (~10/year) for our leadership team. This system combines AI-powered research and personalized outreach with human touches to secure media opportunities.
  • Public Brand - Being a driving force in shaping how we present ourselves publicly—whether to a journalist, in a keynote presentation, or by guiding leadership team members’ LinkedIn content.


These are some examples of past successes using this process: Schwab Network, Startupfest, Bloomberg Radio, New York Times, Saastr, TechCrunch, Collision, Bloomberg, Founder Forum, Web Summit (2022, 2023, 2024), and SXSW (2023, 2024, 2025).


Across the board, success is measured through the lens of sales-qualified opportunities that result from earned media and side events that happen along side speaking appearances.


The ideal candidate will have a passion for the written word, branding, and getting past gatekeepers, while being results-oriented. They should also have a strong appreciation for automation, process efficiency, and organizational skills. If this sounds exciting to you, we’d love to learn more about your background.


About You

What matters most:

  • Proven track record in public relations, and/or building a company brand.
  • Experience securing high-impact earned media placements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for different audiences.
  • Process-driven and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple outbound earned media pipelines and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Results-oriented, with a deep understanding of how earned media contribute to business growth.
  • Comfortable navigating gatekeepers and building strong relationships with journalists, podcast hosts, conference organizers, and other media stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and execute side events (e.g., happy hours, dinners, etc.) that take place alongside speaking appearances.
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging AI and automation to enhance efficiency.


Nice to have:

  • Experience in B2B marketing, an agency, or the recruiting industry.
  • Prior startup experience, especially in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience managing other resources to scale operations efficiently.
  • Background in executive positioning and thought leadership development.
  • Experience with outreach tools such as PRProphet, Muck Rack, or Clay.


Location & Work Style

This is a fully remote position requiring 4+ hours of overlap with Eastern Time (EST) working hours. We welcome candidates from the Americas and Western Europe, so long as you are comfortable with our working hours.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from $50,000 - $60,000 USD based upon experience plus equity
