About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain databases and backend systems that support our cutting-edge R&D and IoT-enabled sensor platforms. You will play a key role in managing data pipelines, integrating IoT platforms, and ensuring the scalability of our backend infrastructure as we grow.
This position involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop solutions that process sensor data efficiently and support the transition from cloud-based to self-hosted IoT architectures.
Key Responsibilities
• Database & Data Infrastructure:
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable databases and data pipelines for R&D, manufacturing, and customer-facing applications.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of data storage systems.
- Optimize database performance and scalability to handle growing data volumes from IoT sensors.
• IoT Backend Development & Integration:
- Build integrations with existing IoT platforms (e.g., ThingsBoard) to collect, store, and analyze real-time sensor data.
- Lead the transition from cloud-based to self-hosted IoT infrastructure as the device fleet scales.
- Develop robust APIs and microservices for seamless communication between sensors, backend systems, and external platforms.
• Software & System Administration:
- Manage and maintain database servers (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and ensure proper backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Deploy and optimize backend services on Linux environments (self-hosted or cloud-based).
- Implement data security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Supporting R&D and Product Development:
- Work with data scientists and hardware engineers to process and visualize sensor data.
- Develop backend solutions that enable real-time monitoring and analytics of sensor performance.
- Contribute to the commercialization of in-house IoT solutions by ensuring robust backend architecture.
Qualifications & Skills
• 4+ years of experience in backend development, including database architecture and API development.
• Expertise in relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) with system administration capabilities.
• Strong experience with microservice architectures and API development.
• Proficiency in Java (or willingness to transition from C#/C++ to Java).
• Experience with Python is a plus.
• Knowledge of full-stack development (JavaScript/TypeScript, React) and Linux deployment is an advantage.
• Familiarity with Git, LLMs, Linux, and AWS.
• Experience with IoT platforms (e.g., ThingsBoard) and managing self-hosted infrastructure is a strong plus.
