About This Position

In alignment with the new IDB institutional strategy and the objectives of IDB Impact+, the IDB Regional Country Department Caribbean (CCB/CCB) is seeking a proactive and experienced Regional Communications Senior Specialist. This role aims to enhance the Department’s visibility, deepen stakeholder engagement, and lead strategic communications efforts. The ideal candidate will excel at translating organizational priorities into impactful communication strategies that enhance the organization’s influence and reputation at both country and regional levels.

What you’ll do

  • Strategic Advisory: Serve as a strategic advisor to IDB senior management, including the Presidency, Regional Country Management, Vice Presidencies, and the Communications Division. Ensure messaging consistency across internal and external communications to reinforce the organization’s mission, goals, and thought leadership
  • Media Relations: Develop and manage strategic media relationships across the region. Provide high-level editorial guidance and coordination on media interactions, press interviews, and briefings. Establish connections with regional influencers and opinion leaders to amplify organizational messaging on digital platforms.
  • Communication Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive regional communication strategy. Ensure alignment with institutional priorities and cross-functional collaboration with VPC/VPC and the Communications Division. This includes proposing a personnel strategy to support communication objectives, identifying skill gaps, recommending staffing needs, and fostering a collaborative environment across regional communication teams.
  • Team Leadership: Provide strategic leadership for the Country Department’s communications team. Ensure alignment with institutional priorities, position the Bank as a key player at the country level, and drive communication activities that spotlight IDB’s initiatives, operations, and knowledge agenda.
  • Crisis Communication: Proactively shape and implement communication strategies to safeguard the institution’s reputation during crises and high-stakes situations. Ensure timely alerts and coordination with headquarters, maintaining stakeholder trust through accurate, transparent, and impactful messaging.
  • Content Creation: Lead the creation and strategic oversight of high-quality content for senior management, including press releases, speeches, video scripts, social media posts, blogs, and talking points. Manage the development of promotional and multimedia content, ensuring narratives effectively illustrate the positive impact of the organization’s projects in the region while bringing to bear knowledge products.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, International Development, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 in a leadership role in communications and/or external affairs matters in private or public national/international organizations. Experience in a multilateral development bank or in developing regions is preferred. Strong experience working in the countries included in the IDB CCB Department (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago), with a deep understanding of its socio-political dynamics and key stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in corporate communications, media relations, and content creation with a demonstrated ability to lead, design, and implement communication initiatives aligned with institutional objectives
  • Languages: Excellent communications skills. Fluency in English. Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese highly desirable

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents. 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

  • Type of contract: International Staff, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
  • Work Location: Kingston, Jamaica.
  • Reporting to: Caribbean Regional Country Group Manager and VPC/VPC Sr Communications Coordinator
