About This Position
As a Data Analyst – Supply Chains, you will work at the Business & Finance Models (BFM) department within TNO Vector, the centre for social innovation and strategy. TNO Vector bundles knowledge and skills to solve structural problems in the Netherlands and Europe. We do this by combining the knowledge in the field of technology, innovation and policy that is present within TNO. We look at the problems from different angles and apply solutions in practice. The 35 consultants and researchers of BFMs share the mission to transform European industry and promote sustainable growth through innovation. Companies, sectors and governments must make strategic choices together. Our analyses support this process by providing economic and business insights, which form a solid basis for policy and investment decisions. We translate technical possibilities into new collaboration models to realise the desired changes.
What will be your role?
As a Data Analyst/Engineer, you will start mapping supply chains of raw materials and technologies in addition to analyzing production, import-export figures. You create new insights and translate these into reports and advice. You will work on challenging projects that fall within the framework of the strategic autonomy of the Netherlands. You ask the right questions about the role of dependency on the Netherlands in relation to supply chains and technology.
If you notice that existing methods are not sufficient to answer these questions, you will start working on it yourself to do something about it
- You develop new research methods to convert quantitative model results into action perspectives
- You proactively engage in discussions with colleagues, stakeholders and customers to identify the problems you are going to work on and to gather the knowledge you need for this
What We Expect From You
You are looking for your first career step and bring a very strongly developed abstract and analytical thinking ability. You have a strong interest in creating insights based on data and the role of supply chains and technology in the autonomy of the Netherlands. You have an affinity with both quantitative and qualitative analyses. You can use a broad set of methods to help customers further, but you also certainly take the lead in being innovative and introducing us to new models and technological possibilities (of now and in the future). You are always interested in new developments, which you will also create and apply yourself. Above all, you are strongly motivated to make an impact, together with others!
What else you bring
- A completed university education in a beta or gamma science (e.g. Data Science, Mathematics or Econometrics)
- You are interested in economic analysis, experience in this is a plus
- Experience in data analysis, visualization and models in Python and/or R in addition to excellent knowledge of Excel
- Experience with Python; web scraping in Python and experience with natural language processing (NLP) in Python large language models (e.g. OpenAI/Hugging Face libraries), experience with vector databases and embeddings
- Knowledge of Power BI, SQL and Git, or willingness to learn them
- Organizational sensitivity, excellent communication and listening skills, including structured writing and presentation in English and Dutch

The selection process
Please apply before 26th of March, 2025. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. The preliminary interview takes place on 3rd of April, 2025 (afternoon). In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.
A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
