About The Position
We are looking for a talented and experienced Technical Art Director to join our team and lead the technical art vision for our upcoming games. Technical Art Director is accountable for the technical art teams’ quality of service, production process and output. Helps art team to maintain the technical standards of art production excellence, timeliness, and profitability of art projects. You will be responsible for overseeing the creation and optimization of stunning art assets, developing, and implementing cutting-edge art pipelines and tools, and collaborating with other art directors, programmers, designers, and producers to deliver a high-quality gaming experience. Establish strong relationships with clients and business development team and build trust in technical art department capabilities and team members.
Responsibilities
- Define and communicate the technical art direction and standards for the game, ensuring consistency and quality across all art disciplines.
- Develop and maintain efficient and robust art workflows and pipelines, using best practices and industry standards, owning the art content pipeline and graphics performance on multiple projects.
- Research and implement new technologies and techniques to enhance the visual fidelity, performance, and interactivity of the game.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the art team, solving complex art-related challenges and troubleshooting issues.
- Work closely with Art directors, Technical Directors, Designers, and Producers to ensure the technical art vision aligns with the creative and technical goals of the game. Bring added value to the project by pushing visual quality and raising the bar.
- Create and manage the technical art budget and schedule, ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of art assets.
- Review and optimize the game's art asset pipeline, ensuring they meet the platform specifications and performance requirements. Help conceive, generate, and improve pipelines and processes in conjunction with Art Leads and the programming team.
- Establish and document the technical art guidelines and best practices for the game. Create professional standard documents for presenting to both clients and within the company.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technical art matters, raising concerns, offer suggestions, and proactively seek to support clients.
- Identify and select tools and technologies to enhance the content creation process. Spearhead R&D efforts for tools, content, and new technologies in relation to art and aesthetics.
- Guide and provide constant support to team members, ensuring the impartation of important knowledge and advice to grow the team on the project.
- Participate in setting the strategic vision for content and tools & in director-level discussions to improve all facets of the company.
- Participate in pre-production planning to determine and address technical design requirements and issues, pre-emptively anticipate risks, and collaborate to create mitigation plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Art, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 3-5 years of experience as a Lead Technical Artist or Technical Art Director in the video game industry, with at least one shipped AAA title.
- Expert knowledge of art creation tools and software, such as Photoshop, Maya, ZBrush, Substance, etc.
- Proficient in scripting and programming languages, such as Python, C#, C++, etc.
- Strong understanding of game engine technologies and platforms, such as Unreal Engine, Unity, etc.
- Excellent artistic skills and eye for detail, with a solid portfolio of art work.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate the art team.
- Passionate about video games and up to date with the latest trends and innovations in the industry.
