Product designer focusing on the progression of the Spinlock PROTECT range, with an emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and structural soft product design. A hands-on designer, experienced in complex constructions and materials with a keen eye for product aesthetics. Practical skills to develop early prototype samples, and experience of working directly with external suppliers. Working as part of a small, dedicated team in Cowes. Demonstrating excellent attention to detail, clear understanding of the development process, high levels proficiency in CAD, and proven design skills with soft products.


The role is office-based at our newly renovated HQ in Cowes on the ISLE OF WIGHT. You will need to be based on the Island or near to Southampton or Portsmouth with understanding that you will need to commute by ferry.

In our friendly and knowledgeable team, we are looking for a positive team player who will take ownership of their role in order to deliver to tight deadlines.


Responsibilities

  • Design, from Concept to Production. Includes Development of new products and updates to the existing range - ensuring budget and timescales are maintained while minimising environmental impact of products.
  • Analysing and reporting to the team on key looks, textile development, trends, processes, and new technologies
  • Gathering internal and external information to drive product and range development for our target customers
  • Developing detailed Technical specification Packs and development instructions for suppliers to ensure efficient development schedules and product compliance.
  • Identifying new product and product improvements, understanding the environmental impacts and decreasing impact where possible
  • Regularly visit factories and international trade shows to help source new fabrics, trims and suppliers and ensure smooth production process.

Skills and Experience

  • Highly efficient in the use of CAD and 3D design packages.
  • A design-based degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Proficient in understanding complex technical drawings.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of technical soft product construction and aesthetics
