As our new
Health & Safety Advisor you will have a passion for solutions and collaboration. You will directly report to and liaise with our Health and Safety Manager on a day to day basis, to address the H&S needs and requirements throughout our UK depot network.
This role is field based and will involve regular
travelling to our Boels Rental depots in England, Scotland and Wales. With this being said; the person which we are looking for, must be comfortable driving to various locations and taking overnight stays, as and when required. Your role as our
Health and Safety Advisor, will involve collaborating with our Health and Safety Manager and delivering advice and support to the Senior Management Team.
How does a typical week look? On Monday morning, you may have to drive to one of our depot locations, and assist the depot with an accident investigation. Following the investigation, you will identify remedial actions, which need to be implemented to ensure no repeat recurrences. You will offer recommendations and training to enable the changes to be made. As our Health & Safety Advisor, you will influence and captivate staff at depot locations; to improve behavioural safety and communicate best practice to employees. You will keep in touch with Depot Manager and Regional Managers to monitoring the depots, which will help to ensure that the changes are implemented and that standards are constantly maintained. After all, Boels is renowned for its reputation for safety!
Later in the week, you could be back at the office in
Birmingham, providing updates to the Health and Safety Manager or updating the senior management team about the progress of the H&S strategy, policies and plans that you have created.
Finally, when we need to open a new depot, you will liaise with the H&S Manager to address all the H&S requirements at any new depot location. Undertaking an assessment, which will clearly define and highlight; all factors needed to ensure all required systems are in place, and ensure a safe working environment for employees. You will be assessing and addressing the levels of risk and ensuring any identified risks are reduced to an accepted level . This is because our ultimate goal is to reduce the number of accidents and keep our employees safe. After all, our employees are our most valuable asset!
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist depot locations in the implementation and roll out of H&S changes.
- Be readily available to address H&S questions from various staff; across the UK network – assist depots with their H&S concerns.
- Collaborate with the H&S Manager, to roll our monthly Awareness Training Materials in the form of Toolbox talks.
- Supporting the set-up and maintenance of the risk evaluation process, and ensuring the correct preventative measures are put in place.
- Work with the H&S Manager on any H&S investigations into occupational accidents to identify root-cause analysis and ensuring the risks are reported and investigated, as well as giving advice and support to ensure issues are rectified quickly and efficiently.
- Communicate regular H&S updates to the UK Operations – in the form of Safety Alerts.
- Ensure that RAMS, company policies, procedural documents are created, updated and reviewed (as and when required).
- Manage existing accreditations, by providing updated documentation to the HAE, Safe contractor, RISQ and other company accreditations.
- Collaborate with the H&S Manager, to undertake 1 x yearly audit at each depot location

- A competitive annual salary ranging from £28,000 to £35,000. The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Your Profile
‘Experience of providing H&S guidance and advice over multiple sites’ ‘Experience of designing and giving engaging H&S training to staff’: It's you, so you fit into our orange team! To become the best at Boels as our Health & Safety Advisor in Birmingham, you have to:
- Be passionate about H&S
- Have a strong knowledge and operational understanding of Health and Safety regulations within the UK, and be able to demonstrate experience of creating and implementing H&S policies and procedures for UK businesses.
- Have experience of providing health and safety guidance and advice over multiple sites in the UK
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent (desirable)
- Practical experience in risk, incident and investigation management
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to find creative solutions to problems
- Willingness to regularly travel around the UK, including overnight stays.
- Be proficient in IT with working knowledge of Microsoft suite - Outlook/Excel/Word/Powerpoint
- Have a valid passport and a full UK Driving Licence (preferably clean).
- Have valid proof of your right to work in the UK – (Boels does not arrange relocation, work visas or provide visa sponsorship)
