Database Administrator / Engineer (AWS) in PHILIPPINES

The Database Administrator is responsible for all aspects of database management. This includes overseeing processes and approvals for changes and governance, ensuring database security, maintenance, and optimization, as well as managing database backups, redundancy, and disaster recovery. They must stay informed about the latest technologies and database-related advancements that can benefit the client. Additionally, they will collaborate with various teams on strategic initiatives and tactical projects involving databases or database servers. They are also responsible for maintaining up-to-date documentation and ensuring its accuracy. Effective communication and escalation of issues to the executive team and their manager are also key responsibilities.

What You Will Be Doing

• Be the Database Owner – Ensure the database is maintained, updated as needed, and regularly optimized for optimal performance based on the client's application requirements.
• Assist Developers with Database Design – Collaborate with developers to create efficient database schemas, enforce best practices, and review code for optimal SQL execution.
• Optimize Queries & Performance – Analyze and improve slow-running queries, optimize stored procedures, and fine-tune indexing strategies.
• Database Maintenance & Administration – Manage backups, restores, and disaster recovery plans; monitor database health, storage, and performance metrics.
• Index & Query Optimization – Continuously improve indexing strategies, optimize query execution plans, and reduce query latency.
• Security & Compliance – Implement and enforce database security controls, including access management, encryption, and auditing.
• Updates & Patching – Keep SQL Server environments up to date with the latest patches, security updates, and AWS optimizations.
• Capacity Planning & Scalability – Plan for growth by ensuring the database infrastructure is scalable and efficient.
• Monitoring & Alerting – Set up and maintain monitoring solutions to proactively identify performance bottlenecks and resolve potential issues before they impact users.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA/DBE, preferably in a cloud-based SaaS environment.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
• Experience working in AWS-hosted SQL Server environments, including EC2-based deployments.
• Proficiency in database security best practices, access controls, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with database backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
• Ability to work closely with developers to review database code, optimize queries, and enforce best practices.
• Familiarity with automation tools for database maintenance and monitoring.
• Experience with T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and database migrations.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex database concepts to developers and stakeholders.

• Strong communication skills, particularly in English.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
