The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate (GCS), Group Digital Office (GDO), Business Solutions Department (BSD), Lending Division (LD), Bespoke Banking Applications Unit (BBA), a (Senior) Squad Leader (Product Manager)*.

This is a full time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

You will lead and manage a software development team responsible for the design, implementation organic evolution of a software product in order to satisfy and respond to all business needs delivering meaningful solutions, in a highly appealing and ergonomic user interface thereby contributing to the EIB Group’s objective and enhance the client experience.

Operating Network

You will report directly to the Head of Unit. This Unit covers a multitude of areas within the EIB, providing in-house developed systems to address the increasing needs of the organization.

Accountabilities

  • Define the priorities with business peers and manage a software development team to achieve business objectives and ensure end-user satisfaction
  • Coordinate a cross-functional team (functional analysts, software engineers, quality insurance engineers) in achieving its project related task(s), skill-based assignment and in operating together as an effective squad including being responsible for the continuous process improvement and squad enhancement
  • Continuously align the product direction to the overall division and department strategic priorities
  • Ensure constant communication with the business community, evaluating the actual business needs and actively applying design thinking to organically progress the software product
  • Apply and promote devops and agile development practices to allow the squad delivering new business value on regular basis
  • Be in charge of the analysis, design, implementation and testing of the business features in the scope of your squad
  • Actively monitor the key performance indicators of the product guiding the team towards achievements of the performance standards
  • Re-deploy efficiently resources to achieve the required quality and time-to-market of the product
  • Implement the necessary IT processes, procedures, standards, control systems, methodologies, processes and working tools
  • Provide information, transfer knowledge and actively promote awareness and a sense of responsibility regarding compliance to relevant IT policies, procedures and work instructions to be followed by all EIB staff

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in in computer science or related disciplines
  • At least 5 years of relevant IT professional work experience with solid experience in a product team, preferably gained in the financial sector.
  • Good experience in functional analysis and testing, preferably in the financial sector
  • Understanding of Java/JavaScript based architecture and experience in managing projects based on these technologies
  • Excellent knowledge of agile and project management principles, methods and practices
  • Exposure to Java and JavaScript and the intricacies related to managing projects around these technologies. A strong willingness to acquire business knowledge is essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (**) with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage).

(**) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The Bank offers appropriate training support.
