The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a global community of over 225 of the world’s leading businesses driving systems transformation for a better world in which 9+ billion people can live well, within planetary boundaries, by mid-century. Together, we transform the systems we work in to limit the impact of the climate crisis, restore nature, and tackle inequality.

We accelerate value chain transformation across key sectors and reshape the financial system to reward sustainable leadership and action through a lower cost of capital. Through the exchange of best practices, improving performance, accessing education, forming partnerships, and shaping the policy agenda, we drive progress in businesses and sharpen the accountability of their performance.

PACT promotes decarbonization across value chains by offering a streamlined methodology for calculating and exchanging supplier specific Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs). Developed in 2020 and hosted by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), PACT harmonizes the PCF calculation and exchange through a universal methodology, technical specifications for PCF exchange, and a committed global ecosystem.

Job Overview

PACT convenes a global community to maintain and implement standards for the calculation and exchange of PCF data. The PACT Technical Specifications have been implemented by 40+ software companies globally, and adoption is expected to accelerate throughout 2025 and beyond with the launch of V3 of the standards.

The PACT Network is an open and global network of interoperable solutions for the secure peer-to-peer exchange of accurate, primary and verified product emissions data – across all industries and value chains. As the network expands, PACT is building online services such as Identity Management and Automated Conformance Testing to lower barriers of adoption and accelerate scaled PCF exchange.

By joining this initiative, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing online services of the PACT Network. As an open-source project, you will engage with individuals from a range of organizations and work together with them and the small and mighty PACT team at WBCSD to shape the PACT Network.

  2. Develop scalable, maintainable, and high-performing back-end services using modern web technologies (relevant technologies: Express, TypeScript, AWS, Docker, Render, Python)
  3. Ensure services are designed with a focus on simplicity, interoperability, and sustainability
  • Co-create technical architecture of services on the PACT Network with the community, iterate based on feedback, conduct MVP testing, and provide support of launched services
  • Maintain open-source GitHub repositories and collaborate with public contributors
  • Co-lead Network Services Working Group convening community to collaborate on the creation of PACT Network services (create and maintain technical documentation, engage in discussion during working group, respond to feedback, follow-up with participants proactively, etc.)
  • Provide user technical support and engage in troubleshooting, helping to develop robust and scalable documentation as adoption scales

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software development, including both back-end and front-end technologies.
  • Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs and working with API management solutions
  • Solid expertise in TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js for both front-end and backend
