Job Description: Vice President of Engineering (Embedded Systems & Firmware)

Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (Future potential for relocation to Singapore to expand Indonesia operations)
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer (CTO) / CEO
Industry: Electric Two-Wheeler / Mobility / Automotive / EV Technology

Role Summary

As the Vice President of Engineering (Embedded Systems & Firmware), you will lead the development of cutting-edge firmware and embedded software solutions for our global electric scooter and motorbike platforms. This role will oversee the entire embedded systems development lifecycle, ensuring real-time performance, power efficiency, and seamless connectivity across all vehicle systems, including motor controllers, battery management systems (BMS), vehicle connectivity, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

This position is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and offers a career growth path to Singapore, where you will be tasked with scaling firmware engineering resources across Indonesia and ASEAN.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership & Embedded Systems Strategy
• Define and execute the firmware and embedded systems roadmap to align with the company’s global R&D and product strategy.
• Lead the architecture, development, and optimization of high-performance firmware for:
• Motor controllers (FOC, BLDC, PMSM) and traction inverters
• Battery management systems (BMS) for Li-ion and next-gen chemistries
• Telematics & IoT connectivity (4G/LTE, Bluetooth, CAN, WiFi, LoRa, Zigbee)
• OTA firmware update mechanisms for remote diagnostics and software upgrades
• Ensure real-time, safety-critical, and power-efficient firmware design that meets stringent global standards for EV performance, reliability, and cybersecurity.
• Develop robust firmware architecture for scalability, ensuring compatibility across multiple two-wheeler platforms and future product iterations.

2. Team Building & Global Talent Development
• Lead, hire, and scale a high-performance firmware engineering team in Ho Chi Minh City, with plans to expand into Singapore and Indonesia.
• Build a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and innovation, fostering collaboration between hardware, software, and product teams.
• Drive firmware best practices, quality assurance, and test automation for reliable performance across global markets.

3. Execution of Embedded Software & Firmware Development
• Oversee the full firmware development cycle, from requirements gathering, coding, testing, validation, and deployment into production.
• Work closely with motor and powertrain engineers to optimize efficiency and performance of electric drivetrains.
• Develop and integrate cybersecurity strategies for firmware authentication, secure boot, encryption, and protection against hacking.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams in India, ASEAN, and global R&D hubs to optimize firmware for mass production and field reliability.
• Establish and improve functional safety compliance processes (ISO 26262, IEC 61508).

4. Innovation & Future Technologies
• Evaluate emerging EV firmware technologies, including:
• AI-powered predictive analytics for EV performance and battery health
• Edge computing for real-time decision-making in vehicle operations
• Ultra-low-power firmware for next-gen IoT and connectivity
• Energy-efficient algorithms for smart range optimization
• Stay ahead of global trends in electric mobility and embedded software development, ensuring our vehicles remain industry-leading in connectivity, efficiency, and performance.

Key Qualifications & Experience
• 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, with at least 5+ years in leadership (Director/VP level).
• Proven expertise in C/C++ programming, real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded Linux, and bare-metal firmware development.
• Hands-on experience with ARM Cortex-M/A architectures, DSPs, and microcontroller-based embedded systems.
• Deep understanding of motor control algorithms (FOC, PID, BLDC, PMSM) and battery management firmware (BMS, SoC, SoH estimations).
• Expertise in wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G/LTE, LoRa, Zigbee, CAN, UART, SPI, I2C).
• Experience leading firmware development teams across multiple locations, with a preference for ASEAN, India, or other global markets.
• Strong understanding of functional safety and cybersecurity (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ASPICE).
• Automotive, EV, mobility, or consumer electronics industry background preferred.

Preferred Skills
• Experience with machine learning on embedded systems (TinyML, Edge AI).
• Knowledge of OTA firmware update architectures and cloud integration.
• Strong understanding of real-time diagnostics and predictive maintenance for EVs.
