We are excited to announce that we are seeking a Data Warehouse Team Leader to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team. The Data Warehouse Team Leader will be responsible for designing and implementing a company-wide data warehouse from scratch, ensuring it is scalable, efficient, and capable of supporting diverse business needs. This role requires deep technical expertise in data warehouse architecture, as well as leadership skills to guide a team in building and maintaining robust data solutions.
The Data Warehouse Team Leader will drive cross-team initiatives within the Data Platform, including data integration, data governance, data cataloging, and best practices for data management. As part of an agile environment, the role will work hands-on while also providing technical leadership and mentorship to the team.
What You’ll Do:
As a Technical Lead:
- Design and build a data warehouse from the ground up, including data modeling, ETL pipelines, and data governance frameworks.
- Develop scalable and efficient data processing solutions to support analytical activities across the company.
- Make key technology stack decisions, evaluating the best tools and frameworks for data warehousing.
- Establish best practices for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and retrieval, ensuring performance and reliability.
- Monitor and optimise query performance, storage efficiency, and system scalability.
- Analyse and resolve production incidents, implementing proactive measures to prevent future issues.
- Plan and execute long-term data platform strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Lead cross-team collaborations with System Architects, Product Owners, and other technology leaders to create an integrated and future-proof data ecosystem.
- Define SLA’s, monitoring mechanisms, and data quality metrics to ensure the reliability of data delivery and processing.
- Ensure that all developed data products align with business needs and quality standards.
As a Line Manager:
- Lead a team of Data Engineers to deliver high-quality data warehouse solutions within set timelines and in accordance with company policies.
- Hire, train, and mentor team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews, and define development plans for team members.
- Inspire and motivate the team by setting clear goals and leading by example.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring each team member operates at their full potential.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience building a data warehouse from scratch (architecture design, schema modeling, ETL pipelines, governance).
- Strong expertise in data warehouse design and optimisation, including massively parallel processing (MPP) databases (e.g., BigQuery, Vertica, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL).
- Advanced SQL skills, including query optimisation and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in Python for ETL development and data processing.
- Strong experience with RDBMS database design in data warehousing context (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres).
- Solid understanding of modern data engineering practices, including ELT vs. ETL, data lakes, and batch vs. streaming architectures.
- Ability to evaluate build vs. buy decisions for third-party data solutions.
- Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
- Experience with Big Data stack (Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
- Experience with cloud-based data warehouse solutions (AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.) is an advantage.
- Fluent Russian and strong English communication skills (both written and verbal).
