Core backend Engineer - Hybrid - PSP (payments) scale-up in Amsterdam - TypeScript, NestJS, AWS Serverless, Scalability, Microservices in AMSTERDAM AREA

Visa sponsorship & Relocation 1 month ago

If you love impact, this is a great opportunity. You’ll be part of the core team in an awesome payments platform adventure in Amsterdam. With a founder team that comes from former top3 PSPs they know where to add value. With a super strong pre-seed and seed rounds driven by champions league VC funds this is a great chance to still get in early. The team will double in 2025 from 12 in Engineering to ~20 and the platform that is processing significant volume already will further scale.

Your job and the requirements

Ownership, impact and tech-challenge are key words for this role. Payments means mission critical, robust and very scalable systems that are complex for many reasons. Most of your time at this company will be working on new/greenfield projects. This product is servicing platforms, not single ecommerce shops for example. Multi-tenancy in the product is being offered in multiple shapes and forms. Super interesting to work on and there’s great interest from the market so the future looks bright.

The team is awesome and together you are setting up and building (domain-driven) designs for scalable architectures making sure everything is tested properly and the best tool/tech for the problem at hand is used. You design it, you build it, test it, you deploy it, you run it and own it!

There is no legacy, you will only use the latest in tech/tooling and the team is able to innovate the payment space in places the big tech PSPs cannot go. The current stack is based on Serverless (AWS), TypeScript (types, classes, etc.) Microservices, NestJS, (No)SQL Databases like Postgres and DynamoDB and scalable API development. You don’t need expert AWS knowledge but fluency in TypeScript (classes, types, etc.) and NestJS is required, preferably having worked on a scalable system.

Having fun on the job is important as well so we are looking for bright personalities with positive vibes! Obviously a start-up requires people with a drive to impact and innovate. Fluent communication in English is mandatory!

Company

Founded by 3 payment domain experts from well-known psp's they initially secured a very good pre-seed round, followed by a solid seed round last year. The VC sheet is one to be proud of with Internationally recognized names on it. The total company today is ~20 people of which 12 in Engineering. The goal is to steadily grow and double the engineering team during 2025 whilst onboarding more clients, adding volume to the platform and maturing the product in all aspects around scalability, predictability, reliability, etc. The product is running successfully at the first clients in production and it is processing significant volume already. The next phase of building the company; platform, culture and team is very exciting because you’re still part of something promising in the early stages. The product will be expanded with a POS feature that’ll give them an omnichannel set-up which will result in an even better market position.

The hybrid work model is 3 days in the office and working remote for longer periods of time is trust that you can earn. Please be aware that this is not, and will never be a full remote company. Working remote for a longer period of time is fine once you’ve shown to be impactful, output driven and able to take ownership. They operate from a cool office space in Amsterdam. Lunch is taken care of, both warm or cold and healthy or not! Your ping pong, table soccer, inhouse cinema/game area, etc is all there!

Salary and benefits

The base compensation is good and the esop stock package makes it very interesting. The team is very realistic about compensation and I believe the total comp offered is competitive. The focus is on local talent but exceptions can be made for Internationals willing to relocate to Amsterdam if there is the perfect match. They will offer a relocation package, VISA sponsorship and 30% ruling.
