CONTEXT
Creative Content Unit sits within the MSF South Asia Communications Department. This unit ensures the production of high quality multimedia content to maximize MSF’s capacity to engage audiences about humanitarian crises and MSF projects through MSF’s own channels and external media. Collectively, the Creative Content Unit supports MSF’s South Asia’s strategic objective of engagement by elevating the organization’s advocacy, communications, fundraising and operational priorities.
OBJECTIVE
The Creative Content Unit Coordinator leads and operates MSF South Asia’s Creative Unit as center of excellence for production of high quality innovative multimedia communications (photo, video, graphic design, motion graphics, audio, and more). The CCU Coordinator stays abreast of recent developments in technological innovations in communications and multimedia consumption, and advice on best tools to tell humanitarian stories and engage target audiences.
The CCU Coordinator develops policies and standards for audiovisual content on different platforms and ensures these policies and standards are consistently followed to safeguard MSF’s identity, ethical and quality requirements. S/he ensures coherence and synergies in the production of both online and offline content for public communications. In that sense, s/he is responsible for ensuring a seamless production and/or commissioning, delivery and monitoring cycle of audiovisual and other multimedia contents such as:
- Audiovisual and photo production for external use (b-rolls, pictures, and films)
- Illustrations, animated content graphic and motion design to highlight real humanitarian stories
- Digitally native and user-generated content for MSF’s social media channels
- Design and production of branding and offline collaterals
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy and Planning
- Provide leadership and strategic vision for creative content production working with operational and institutional colleagues in the South Asia region
- Identify, propose and develop strategies and formats to generate creative content that would maximize audience engagement
- Define, manage and monitor the Creative Content Unit’s budget and expenses to optimize resources
- Oversee the needs and requests from the Communications Department as well as from other departments and offices in the Movement in order to identify and set the priorities of the Creative Content Unit
- Develop and maintain a pool of independent content producers and agencies as surge capacity for production or post-production work
- Coordinate visits of the CCU to MSF projects, and presence in events to gather multimedia content, and when relevant, contract external production crews
- Actively contribute to strategic discussions on planning and implementation of MSF South Asia’s strategic objectives, on improving regional engagement, consumer trends, risk analysis, tools and tactics in order to optimize production and dissemination for outreach
Audio Visual
- Support MSF’s operational and institutional objectives through compelling, contemporary and high-quality content production and post-production.
- Conceptualize content and treatment of videos to best meet MSF engagement objectives
- Shoot, edit and ensure delivery of video messages for MSF’s project teams
- Learn and bring in expertise in utilization and risk management of cutting-edge technological advancements in communication production, like the utilization of AI
- Draft scripts, outlines and storyboards for original content production.
- Create and edit audiovisual material into a variety of deliverables intended for broadcast, web, social media outlets, and MSF internal use.
- Produce audiovisual material for the larger MSF movement or in collaboration with different MSF offices across the movement.
- Ensure high-quality branded collateral production in different departments of MSF South Asia and the movement, through the development of brand templates and guidelines to support the layout of different digital engagement, reporting and knowledge management initiatives
- Guide and oversee creative graphic design production for or by teams in the South Asia region to ensure overall brand consistency and guidelines are followed, and where possible, streamline such tasks to the Creative Content Unit
Process and quality control
- Ensure consistent brand, logo, and style is used in all creative content production, including consistency with MSF South Asia’s guidelines on diversity, equity and inclusion
- Act as a referent for visual guidelines, including ethics, GDPR compliance, usage rights (legal and quality control)
- Ensure all creative content has been validated before release
- Sign off contracts for external videographers, photographers, animators, and others for assignments
- Ensure fully informed consent is collected before photographing or filming individuals, act as a focal point for consent reviews, and keep a record of audiovisual consents for MSF South Asia office
- Ensure proper storage of MSF audiovisual assets on MSF servers or MSF Media Database with proper filing and tagging
- Provide professional and capacity building support to field communication staff on multimedia content production and contribute to building capacity of field teams to producer creative content, including user generated content
- Adhere to Data Protection Policy
Management and departmental administration
- Supervise and coach the Creative Content Officer, and manage their performance and development plans, coordinating with relevant focal points across the South Asia region
- Build the creative capacity of the digital and social media content officer to enable them to utilize simple creative tools to create digital content
- Where relevant, organize internal training/briefing sessions especially for internal stakeholders on usage of simple design tools, and audiovisual policies.
- Draw annual plans and midyear reviews for creative content production within MSF South Asia team, including budget planning
- Carry out any duties that may reasonably be required by the Director of Communications in the light of the main purpose of the job
KEY INTERACTIONS
- Works closely with all members of the Communications, FR, Programs, HR teams and GD’s office
- Builds strong relationships and collaborates actively with
- MSF India operations
- Field communications teams around the South Asia region
- AV colleagues from the MSF movement worldwide
- Interface and consult regularly with cross-functional teams across the movement to ensure consistency in messaging and managing the relationship and performance of external consultants
REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualifications & Functional / Technical Skills
- Graduation Degree in mass communication/multimedia production/marketing communications/filmmaking or equivalent field from a reputed institute
- Also,/or a combination of relevant professional experiences in line with the responsibilities listed in this job description
Relevant Experience
- At least 4-6 years of experience working in professional filmmaking or as a creative designer, or audio/video production producer, or a relevant field
- Previous experience in the international humanitarian/INGO sector is a strong asset
- Strong experience in corporate branding, layout, color theory and typography
- Portfolio of audiovisual productions that showcase creativity, quality, attention to detail, and preferably relevance to the humanitarian sector
- Updated understanding of and familiarity with modern technologies of audiovisual production, preferably familiarity with the role of AI in creative content
- Proficiency in filming techniques, and experience in operating professional cameras
- Proficiency in video editing tools (Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator), compressing standards, Adobe Creative Suite and online publishing tools, including InDesign
- Good writing skills for scripts, captions and subtitling
- Experience working in South Asia region is a strong asset
