The Role
As a Commercial Analyst – Wholesale Energy, you will provide critical insights into wholesale energy market dynamics, assisting in the development of trading strategies and optimising portfolio performance. You will collaborate across teams to analyse market trends, forecast performance, and support data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Analysis: Evaluate wholesale energy market trends, pricing, and regulatory changes to inform strategic decision-making.
- Portfolio Optimisation: Analyse performance metrics to identify opportunities for portfolio efficiency and risk mitigation.
- Data Modelling: Develop and maintain financial and market models to support trading strategies and forecasting activities.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with trading, risk, and finance teams to align strategies with business goals.
- Reporting: Prepare and present actionable insights, market updates, and performance metrics to key stakeholders.
- Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities to enhance tools, processes, and frameworks for market and financial analysis.
About You
The ideal candidate will be analytically minded with a strong understanding of energy markets and financial modelling. Key qualifications and skills include:
- Proven experience in a commercial or analytical role within the energy sector.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis and financial modelling, using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Familiarity with energy trading, wholesale market structures, and regulatory frameworks in Australia.
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, or similar languages are highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively.
- A degree in economics, finance, business, engineering, or a related field.
