On behalf of our customer EUMETSAT, we are looking for Data Processing Operations Engineers. Your mission is to ensure the effective operation, evolution and operation preparations of EUMETSAT’s data processing systems for the EPS, EPS-SG, MSG, and MTG missions.


Responsibilities:

Routine Operations:

·       Conduct and coordinate routine, non-routine, and contingency operations of data processing and product extraction systems.

·       Monitor system performance and quality, identify anomalies, investigate and resolve issues, and propose system improvements.

·       Maintain operational schedules and support medium- and long-term planning activities.

·       Prepare, maintain, and update operational documentation, procedures, and user guides.

·       Provide on-call support as part of a rotation, responding promptly to critical operational issues.

·       Generate periodic inputs for mission Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other operational reports.

·       Deliver training to operational personnel as required.

Operations Evolution:

·       Contribute to defining and implementing system and product evolution, including operational validation and compliance assessments

·       Support the evaluation and validation of new or upgraded systems, preparing reports and identifying improvement opportunities

·       Collaborate with scientific and technical teams to define quality monitoring tools for satellite data products and radiometric calibration

Operations Preparation:

·       Participate in reviews, identifying system deficiencies, risks, and resolutions

·       Support the preparation and validation of configuration items and operational scenarios

·       Develop and refine operational concepts, commissioning plans, and transition strategies

·       Engage in integration, verification and validation testing for new systems and ground segments

·       Liaise with internal scientists to improve algorithms and other data processing methodologies

 

Profile:

·       University degree or equivalent in engineering, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, meteorology, or a related scientific discipline

·       At least 2 years’ hands-on experience in real-time or near-real-time satellite data processing and calibration in an operational environment

·       Expertise in managing and validating complex data processing or product extraction systems

·       Strong background in UNIX/Linux environments, with a systematic approach to troubleshooting and operations

·       Excellent communication, team collaboration, and reporting capabilities within multi-disciplinary environments

·       Ability to learn and develop expertise in dynamic, fast-paced contexts while managing tight deadlines

·       Proficiency in creating clear, accurate, and detailed technical documentation and operational reports

·       Willingness to provide 24/7 on-call support, including weekends and public holidays, as needed and therefore compensated

·       Proficient in English


Nice to have:

·       Experience in algorithm specification, development, or validation for remote sensing missions

·       Familiarity with mass processing systems and “Big Data” paradigms

·       Knowledge of EUMETSAT satellite data products, quality control, and calibration

·       Proficiency in scripting/programming languages such as Python, C++, or Bash

·       Understanding of relevant data formats (e.g. NetCDF, HDF, GRIB) and communication protocols (TCP/IP)
