Lead Mechanical Engineer in GREATER ORLANDO

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our client's collaborative team. This position focuses primarily on HVAC system design, with additional oversight of plumbing system design, and offers the opportunity to work on diverse and exciting projects. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design efforts, serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR), and mentor a team of junior engineers and designers, guiding their development while ensuring successful project outcomes. Your role will be key in delivering high-quality projects through a combination of technical leadership, collaboration, and continuous learning. A key aspect of this role is your ability to work effectively within a supportive, fast-paced environment, making a meaningful contribution to both the team and the company’s long-term success.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the HVAC design process, including scope development, cost estimation, and project planning.
  • Direct and review critical system calculations, such as building load and ventilation calculations, psychrometric analyses, and pressure drop calculations for ductwork and piping systems.
  • Develop and justify HVAC system concepts, ensuring optimal solutions tailored to specific project needs and applications.
  • Oversee the creation of comprehensive construction documents, including system narratives, design analyses, specifications, and drawings.
  • Lead design teams across multiple projects, managing schedules and ensuring design integrity.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, fostering their professional development and skill enhancement.


3D Modeling & Coordination:

  • Ensure the accurate development of detailed 3D building models, guiding junior engineers and designers in creating and refining designs.
  • Oversee coordination and clash detection efforts using tools like NewForma and Navisworks, ensuring smooth integration with other project disciplines.


Support & Documentation:

  • Prepare engineering reports, technical specifications, and other project documentation to meet client and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with industry codes, standards, and best practices to ensure all work adheres to relevant norms.


Construction & Site Engagement:

  • Conduct site visits, attend construction meetings, and document project progress to identify and resolve any design challenges during the construction phase.
  • Supervise the review of shop drawings, respond to RFIs, issue supplemental instructions, and provide project status updates.


Software Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with Revit (and AutoCAD to a lesser extent).
  • Experience with load calculation software such as Trane Trace 700, 3D Plus, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling software like DOE-2, EQUEST, and energy compliance tools such as ComCheck and FLACOM.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC system design, ideally within an engineering consulting environment.
